South Korea sees 10th-straight day of triple-digit coronavirus case increases | TheHill

South Korea has reimposed several social-distancing measures after the nation’s coronavirus cases increased by triple digits for the 10th consecutive day.

The nation closed beaches and churches and banned fans from baseball games after the country’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 397 new cases of the virus Sunday. A new spike in the virus began in the Seoul region before spreading to most of South Korea’s other major cities and towns, The Associated Press reported.

KCDC Director Jeong Eun-kyeong said the daily increases may climb in the days ahead.

“We don’t see the current state as the peak ... we believe that infections could further increase,” she said during a briefing, the AP reported. “Patients are increasing not only in the Seoul metropolitan region, but also across the 17 (major) cities and provinces throughout the country, pushing us on the verge of a massive nationwide outbreak.”

SK was one of the countries who took it seriously and acted quickly.

So it isn't accurate to compare them to red states.

What it really says is it's just as contagious and has just as many asymptomatic carriers as it always has. It is here to stay and vigilance is necessary until vaccines/treatments are in place everywhere.

Quarantine fatigue is also an issue everywhere.

The pattern is pretty damn clear in places like South Korea, Australia, and even New Zealand.

People view "relaxing restrictions" as "we don't have to be careful anymore."

Hell American Airlines is still packing people in like sardines and not practicing any social distancing measures.

Just about every country on Earth is living proof that no matter what you do, no matter how much you lock down, the virus will come back to get you. And yet the left would have you believe that it is all Trump's fault.

Experts around the world cannot agree on whether the right approach is to open up schools, scale back lockdowns and wear masks.

What if...? made a good point about this not necessarily being a red state problem; I'd say it's a cautionary tale for northeastern states because they have been implementing slow reopening measures closely tied to infection rates. It will be interesting to see how S.Korea handles this and what kind of data they obtain from their data gathering efforts; they've done really well at contact tracing.

The US is 6 times the size of South Korea. Our “reduced“ level of 40,000 new cases per day is 100 times South Korea’s triple digit flare up. Pretty minor compared to our problems.

They will get it under control. They don’t have a leader who is anti testing and anti mask. They do have right wingers who are the main problem:

It's wasn't so much that South Korea was great. It was more that the US totally sucks as long as Trump is alive. Trump is the ONLY thing these idiots care about.

What a clueless comment!

They should STILL be touting SK’s leadership!

LOOK at Korea!

As of today US deaths per million = 547, SK = 6.

US New cases today = 41,484, SK = 266, SK adjusted for population difference = 1726.

So SK only has 1% of the deaths per million to date that the US has.

Even with their new “outbreak” SK’s adjusted new cases today are only 4% of ours.

South Korea’s response to the virus is so far superior to ours it’s almost impossible to see how we could be so bad.

If you look at deaths per million by country on worldometer, we are number 206 out of 215 countries with 215 being the worst.

57 percent of Republicans say coronavirus death toll is 'acceptable’. What is WRONG with Republicans? How can be in 206th place out of 215 be acceptable? Whatever happened to American Exceptionalism? It’s not supposed to mean exceptionally bad!

California is still pumping out around 5,000 new cases per day. The beaches and restaurants are still open.

Our covid numbers are so skewed that we will never know what the death rate is.

No. We know when someone dies of the virus.

From testing, we have the amount of the population that's infected.

When we compare data from all over the developed world, we see that there is a death rate of 0.7% or so.

You can find studies online.

What it shows is that to prevent the spread of this virus, lockdowns and restrictions need to be permanent. You can hide under your bed as long as you want, but eventually you have to come out. And when you do, the virus will be waiting.

Which is true for almost every virus, particularly the contagious ones. We dont really know how many people get the flu every year, any year, because there are always some who don't go to the doctor, who experience mild symptoms. But we still estimate a death rate based on the info we do have, reported cases vs deaths from flu, just as is being done with coronavirus.

I have never been listed among the known flu cases reported because I've never been tested for the flu, and the same is true for my kids. But that doesn't mean we've never had it.

How's America doing? 4% of the world population with 20% of the world's infections. So much winning.

The USA has the most mobile and transient population on earth.

Yes, and? You just demonstrated why staying home works; because too many idiots are 'mobile' and 'transient', ignoring lockdown, masks and social distancing and spreading their disease wherever they go.

Except for postal carriers, store workers, trash workers, police, firemen. ambulance and EMT crews, public utility workers, nurses, doctors, critical manufacturing......right?

There are tens of millions of people in these fields.

Lock down my ass.

Yes, they are essential workers and I suggest they are responsible enough to adhere to common sense precautions advice. Find me a single nurse or a doctor who doesn't understand how or why mask wearing works and I'll find you a hundred idiot libertarians. Tens of thousands of maskless bikers descending on Sturgis, for example, are not 'essential' workers.
Yes, lock down your ass or join the 175,000 dead Americans who also dismissed a deadly pandemic and were too damn stupid and arrogant to keep themselves and others safe.

Your political divisiveness is disgusting. People are dying of this all over the globe and you're dancing on their graves because some of them vote differently than you wish they would. It's unconscionable.

Yeah, it's easy for people to call for lockdowns when someone else delivers their groceries, takes away their trash, keeps their lights on, ensures their water service and internet functions, delivers their packages and medications in the mail, responds when they dial 911, is waiting to help them if they have to go to the hospital, and watches the kids of all those people performing their services for them, and then have the cajones to make fun of these essential workers who do wind up getting ill. Selfish pricks the lot of them.
