State epidemiologist Josh Clayton said Wednesday that there are 28 people in South Dakota who have possibly been reinfected with the disease 90 days after their first infection, raising questions about how long antibodies can fight future infections.
These possible reinfections mayt confirm the short half-life of the anti-viral antibodies. first noticed in convalescent plasma. That could be bad new for the vaccines in development. The vaccines are antigens (parts of the virus) that are intended to raise antibodies. But if these antibodies have a short half-life, revaccination may become an imperative every few months.
