I found this on Fark just a second ago.

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory Achieves Net Zero Energy Consumption

Its the first Federal building to produce as much energy as it produces. So its Green for those who care, and its technology will help reduce or at least mitigate dependence on foreign energy. Everyone wins.

Looks to be done right....if you want to see its opposite, visit the Sandra Day O'Connor Justice building in Phoenix. Best time to get the full impact is in the summer.
It is all glass on the exterior, IN PHOENIX !!!
The architect was a New Yorker, IIRC. I don't think he knows much about the southwestern climate....

Zero net energy consumption!*

*Only with air conditioning off. Internal temperature average 163 degrees.

They say the building actually stays at a pretty consistent temperature.

It wasn't a good spot for a casino anyway.

While I was jesting... it is interesting to see what many tribes are doing with government grants other than building casinos. Some tribes are building housing, factories that make coat hangers, building schools and hospitals. Good to see...

To be fair, building a casino isnt a terrible idea. They generate FAR more revenue for the tribe than government grants ever will and they are almost totally under the control of the tribe. As business moves go, you could do a lot worse.

I don't like it. It's a commie plot.
