As we all know, Bush normally does not speak in front of forums that are open to the general public. But yesterday, he attended one, and one of the people in the audience gave him an earful. Here is what the guy said, in part:

You never stop talking about freedom, and I appreciate that. But while I listen to you talk about freedom, I see you assert your right to tap my telephone, to arrest me and hold me without charges, to try to preclude me from breathing clean air and drinking clean water and eating safe food.

What I want to say to you is that I, in my lifetime, I have never felt more ashamed of, nor more frightened by, my leadership in Washington.

I feel like, despite your rhetoric, that compassion and common sense have been left far behind during your administration.

I would hope, from time to time, that you have the humility and the grace to be ashamed of yourself.

I love Bush's response:
"I fully understand that the intelligence was wrong, and I'm just as disappointed as everybody else is,"

Now if he'd just say that HE was wrong too, we can start moving forward.

He is well with in his right to say this, I just don't agree. I can't think of a more appropriate way of protecting our country, then tapping phone calls coming in from known terrorists. Last time I checked, you don't have the right to talk with our enemies, and unless this gentleman was talking with one recently, I don't know what he has to be ashamed of?

Was thinking the same thing. I don't know if I would cheer someone hurling insults at the President. It just seemed kinda sick to me.

Coming from you, I'll take that as a compliment.

Ivan, there is a difference between cheering on what this guy said on a message board and cheering him on at the forum. If I was present, as much as I dislike this president, I would have never cheered him on. I would have sat there in silence.

Ummm, exaggerating the intelligence to get us into Iraq. Not only should he be ashamed, he should resign.

If I thought he was correct, you should cheer, I would, but the fact is, he was just trying to protect Americans. This is probably one of the best things he has done while president, next to going in to Afghan.

I was speaking about the gentleman who is the topic of your thread, and what has this to do with your thread anyway?

If it's proven he lied about intelligence, he should be impeached, but this is all just speculation, and you have demonstrated how it's used in discussions that are not even relevant to topic at hand. Shame aps, if you have information I don't, about NSA wire taps, please, share them with us.

Agreed. I just thought that this statement, "If I thought he was correct, you should cheer, I would," Is a bit bias. Standing up to talk crap is just kind foolish .

Huh??? You stated, "I don't know what he has to be ashamed of?" I assumed "he" was Bush. That is what my comment refers to, which is just one of the things that I think Bush should be ashamed of.

I don't fully understand what you are saying in your second paragraph.

Obviously you confused my post, then went off on a separate issue, it's o.k, you are not the first to resort to this in times of frustration.;)

I'll see your "bullshit" and raise you with facts:
NSA's Hunt for Terrorists Scrutinizes Thousands of Americans, but Most Are Later Cleared
Intelligence officers who eavesdropped on thousands of Americans in overseas calls under authority from President Bush have dismissed nearly all of them as potential suspects after hearing nothing pertinent to a terrorist threat, according to accounts from current and former government officials and private-sector sources with knowledge of the technologies in use.

LOL Okay, Deegan, you win.

Back to the subject at hand, I love that this guy was able to say his peace. I don't know if you read the article, but it said that during this little tirade, Bush made a joke. Classy.

I still do not see a problem here. The ability to abuse does not mean being abused. What jumps out is that "nearly all calls are dismissed" and they move on to the next potentials. There is an active spy network globally. This isn't just America. These terrorists and future terrorists make international calls, in which they reveal the "facts" we need. Our current laws are not adequite to face today's and tomorrow's threats. The intelligence gathering tactic of the "Cold War" is of no use to us. We are not facing another superpower.

As far as the guy at the forum, he seems a bit extreme to me. The world is full of governments that oppress, abuse, and slaughter. He's "frightened" of our government? ......get a grip.

So? You got something to hide? I don't care if someone is listening to me talk to my fishing buddy or whatever. I have nothing to hide and I am thankful the government is doing their job to protect me and my family.
Just because I've got nothing to hide doesn't mean I don't want to shut my bathroom door when I poop. That's the point.

I loathe the argument that since I have nothing to hide it means that the government can listen in on my calls, read my e-mails, peruse my library card history, delve into my bank accounts, and on and on. I'm innocent and should be treated as such unless they have a warrant that suggest elsewise. As should all citizens of this once free nation.

Do you evidence for all these accusations? I doubt it. We are as free as a nation can get who is at war with a clever sneaky ruthless enemy who wishes to kill YOU. Think on that one for a while.

LOL Love it! I so agree, shuamort.

If Bill or Hillary Clinton were president, you know that these people wouldn't be defending the current warrantless wiretapping.

All's I know is that I'm glad that I'm not the dude that stood up and told President Bush off. I am sure that guy can expect at least a tax audit in the near future. Too bad if he has any relatives working for the government too.

Oh my goodness. What was that clown thinking? I also hope he knows how to fill out unemployment forms.

YIKES!!!!

That's quite a leap, quite an assumption, lol:lol:

Frankly, I would be willing to die as long as I had all the freedoms that this country promises at that time.

I know a lot of other great ways we could protect the company [correction: country - faux paux]

We could let the authorities enter anyone's house at any time for any reason and ransack it to search for whatever they want.

We could let the authorities arrest anyone for any reason including their skin color.

We could let the authorities torture people until they say what the authorities want them to say.

We could let the authorities arrest anyone at any time for any reason and lock them away indefinitely.

We could do away with trials so the accused don't get off.

We could do away with the free press because they aid and encourage the enemy.

We could do away with dissenters for the same reason.

Those things would make us a lot safer. If we keep on our current path, we'll get there. Then we can all feel nice and safe.
