Some Republicans want to oust a Muslim doctor from his GOP leadership role — because he’s Muslim

I've already noted in a previous post that Democrats were at that time split between the liberal Democrats in the north and the conservative Democrats or "Dixiecrats" in the south who voted against the bills. What I find disingenuous is the attempt by conservative posters to characterize the current Democratic as still what it was in the south of the 1950's and '60's.
Perhaps some do that, no doubt.

What is truly underhanded and genuinely disingenuous are the lefties trying to make my party accept their bad history, atrocities and all.

Nope, we are a proud party, our history is mainly of good to very good. So, nope, not after we did so much, lost so many---screw that... got one of the lost trying to do precisely that right now, matter of fact.

Utter and complete bull****... that they cannot handle what their own Southern folks did and that their Northern brothers enabled all along.

Tough. The true history is written, known by those who study it closely.

Christians have a history of bigotry, homophobia, and misogyny as well. We've worked hard to overcome all this, but it's still there, and it pops up from time to time. Not all Muslims are anti-gay and so forth. To put them all in the same category is bigoted in itself.

Very true. Not all Muslims are anti-gay. But Islam is - would you deny it?

Very true. Not all Muslims are anti-gay. But Islam is - would you deny it?

I actually don't know the Quran, so I can't say how anti-gay they might be. I do know the Bible though, and there are some anti-gay verses in it that Christians who are homophobic love to quote. I will admit that Islam seems to be much more dominated by conservatives than Christianity and homophobia is stronger and more widespread.

The Klanbake would have made him weep.

Actually the fact that the Republicans have embraced the Klan in today’s day and age would have just pissed him off.

Ha, what Republicans? The ones like Trump categorically renounced all forms of racism, the KKK, neo-Nazis and David Duke by name? The Republicans who kicked Richard Spencer's ass tot he curb as soon as they realized he showed up to CPAC? As opposed to your vaunted leftist leaders like Farrakhan, the most vile and virulent Jew hater in America?

LOL.

Wow, ya need to do some more reading... not just rely on what your lib teachers "taught" and omitted teaching you in public school. But you have a partial understanding at least.

Aware that it was under Eisenhower [R] that the US passed our first Voting and Civil Rights Acts since 1875 with all Republican Senators voting for both, overwhelming majorities of Republicans in the House? Way way different on the Democrat side of the aisle with LBJ trying to throw a wrench in the works and did make the CR Act of 1957 toothless requiring the Republicans to come back in 1960 with the VR Act.

Aware that it was Eisenhower [R] that sent federal troops into a Southern State uninvited first time since the Civil War... into Little Rock to protect and ensure integration, that Nixon did way more integration in the South than JFK or LBJ together accomplished?

Chew on those for a while.

Just curious how you explain the 'Democratic party is the party of racists in 2018' stance with the simple fact that across the country, nearly all black elected officials are Democrats and blacks vote something like 70-90% Democratic. Are blacks too dumb to recognize the racism in the party they belong to, vote for, and serve as elected officials?

It's also historical fact that more Democrats voted for the CRA and VRA than Republicans, and that outside the former CSA, virtually all Democrats supported those bills, pushed hard across the finish line by Democrat LBJ. So when you talk about the Democratic party in 1960, you simply must recognize that it comprised two different wings - the southern Dixiecrats who were Democrats because Lincoln was a gd Republican and they'd never support the party of Lincoln, and didn't for about a century, versus the rest of the country.

There's also just no question that the Democratic party of 2018 is fundamentally different than it was in 1960.

Unfortunately the Republican party pick up some of the bigots who left the Democrat party.
The political philosopher John Locke said that government office should be open to all except for Catholics and atheists.
Catholics because they had sworn an allegiance to a foreign crown (which the pope was in the 18th century),
and atheists because they lacked a moral compass.
A Muslim who openly stated that they believed Sharia to supersede our laws, or refused to support our laws and constitution,
perhaps should be excluded from office, but short of that, I see not reason to exclude anyone.

Why oh why did the democrats let these 'very fine people' leave the party? And why oh why did the republicans welcome these 'very fine people' with open arms?

I didnt say the Democrat party is racist, but yes, it actually is.

Its bought off the Al Sharpton's and Jesse Jackson types to hoodwink the black community for decades. Has offered handouts and promises, especially in election years and kept the black community from progressing, from honestly looking inwardly at and solving its internal problems like black on black crime and violence, poor educational standing, poverty and out of control single family motherhood...

With Trump, the black community is being reawoken.

And it's not just blacks that have been taken in, white liberals are equally discouraged from looking at these same problems that are papered over, ignored but festering. Which CRA? 1957? Which VRA, 1960? Of 1866? Of 1871 of 1875? Of 1964? Of 1965? The latter two, but the percentages of Republicans, who were fewer in actual numbers, was far higher than Democrats in each instance.

And Southern Dems were Dems because of Lincoln? Only because Lincoln was the leader of the party that defeated the South, the same party forced to occupy a recalcitrant south during Reconstruction, forced Southern Democrats to recognize the humanity of all humans.

I would agree that the general biology, ethnicity, many of the general aims/direction of the Democrat party has indeed changed. The GOP is still basically the same party as it ever was tho with fewer of the Rockefeller types, but still adhering to the classical liberal heritage and traditional values.

There is just way way way less racism now except that aforementioned. It's hardly comparable to the dark days of either Slavery, Black Codes, Jim Crow or even the Civil Rights Era...

And yet you folks still want to divide us, everything and everybody must see a color and we are forced to deal in that manner instead of us all being Americans of equal weight and value. Its a power thing now. Your party originally created the problem were defeated then returned and perpetuated the divisions, were defeated once again and now have brought slavery to the state as your new system of keeping black people in line.

Kudos to the Party for condemning it.

Man, you are off the deep end.

The point of Ataraxia's post was that Nixon's southern strategy was crafted to appeal to southern racists. He used the Atwater quote to confirm this. Your point about Reagan's campaign is actually interesting but you're using it as a deflection.
If that was so about Nixon, why didn't he win the South in the 1968 election?

Because Southern racists didnt vote for Nixon, by far the majority voted for the Democrat Humphrey and the before and after election Democrat, George Wallace...who changed back to D after he lost the presidential and won the governorship of Alabama. He was governor of Alabama for 4 terms, all of them as a Democrat.

Any more help you need?

Man, you are off the deep end.
How does one attack such meager nothings?

First, thats a damned poor excuse for an argument, worse than usual Kob... I mean you usually give yourself another line but that is truly a masterpiece of how not to debate. You are aware this is a debate site, not just a place to roll your eyes or call your opponent crazy, right?

OK, so you are essentially asserting that blacks are too dumb to vote correctly. That's a winning strategy I think.

With Trump, the black community is being reawoken.

LOL

Right, Democrats in the former CSA voted roughly 100% against those bills, and Democrats in the rest of the country voted roughly 100% for them. White southern racists versus roughly the rest of the country, of either party.

And Southern Dems were Dems because of Lincoln? Only because Lincoln was the leader of the party that defeated the South, the same party forced to occupy a recalcitrant south during Reconstruction, forced Southern Democrats to recognize the humanity of all humans.

Correct. Although let's be clear here - Southern Democrats = white racists, those in power at every level of the South, business and government, law enforcement, judges, educators - white society in the South. There wasn't, in other words, a more enlightened white Republican population in the South, because for the most part they didn't exist. So it wasn't a party thing, but a race thing.

I would agree that the general biology, ethnicity, many of the general aims/direction of the Democrat party has indeed changed. Not sure what the aformentioned racism was, but there is less racism.

More of calling blacks too dumb to realize what the Democrats are doing. Good stuff. It's really a mystery why they're not voting with the GOP. That whole - "hey you dumb blacks, vote for we Republicans instead of the people you're too stupid to realize have put you back in chains!" should work well, but somehow doesn't. I just don't understand why that message doesn't resonate....

I do not think it was a question of ether, and many of those fine people stayed in the democratic party,
but changed their face mask. No, the parties don't have a choice is who checks the box of party membership.
Anyone who can legally vote, can vote in ether primary.

Hoodwinked, bamboozled, conned, betrayed, duped, played and victimized, flimflammed... that ONLY means one side, the Democrat Party, is so power hungry that they will promise anything for a vote. Does not mean the other side is too dumb, just means the predators have been masterfully deceitful.

Yano?

Many, from the super intelligent on their deathbeds down to unborn who were not even allowed the dignity to live, have been similarly fooled, deceived, similarly cheated with disastrous results.

LOL? :lamo

Thanks for helping make my point, hat tip.

As to your race thing not party thing, you will have to be a bit more forthcoming to be understandable on the topic. I will wait for your response before attacking or agreeing.

The "aforementioned racism" was the detailing of how the Democrat party, to keep the black vote, deceives, using front men shysters like Jackson/Sharpton to keep the Black Democrat under state subjugation using the lure of Federal programs to ensnare them in Sargassoian "safety nets".

The reason is not that they are dumb, it is because the Democrat Party has been like drug dealers who get entire generations of families hooked on life wasting, in this case, programs that just suck any ambition from anybody unfortunate enough to get their "help".

The Republican Party is here to liberate all from the chains these programs have put peoples of all colors in. We, especially Trump, has made it a priority to create goal and life inspiring jobs, work for people who desperately want that, not a measly check every month, but something of which they can be proud, hold their head up, dream and strive for more...

Your folks just crush that... and people have come around to realize that. Simple... so if you are so smart, why don't you get the real message instead of the bs you are trying to caricature us as?

Eh?

Those trying to remove him due to Religion should be booted from the Party

Faster and faster, we're becoming nothing more than a banana republic. With the blatant voter fraud in N. Carolina and the power grabbing by Republicans in Wisconsin, it's all very frightening what's happening. And now, the CFO of Huawei being arrested in Canada for doing business with Iran which is under U.S. sanctions is going to absolutely crash the stock market today and even worse this is going to be a global diplomatic mess of unseen proportions.

Remember when conservatives mocked us as snowflakes because we were all convinced that Trump was not only an ass but that he would bring this country down with a crash and threaten world peace? Yeah, they laughed at us. Let's see who has the last laugh. Unfortunately, the entire globe is screwed as a result of their foolishness.

That's certainly a lot of baggage you bring to a story about a local party official (party, not government). You could just put it in your signature and save yourself a lot of time.

Whatever.....it's all illegal, it's voter fraud, power grabbing and all by Republicans in government.

The Democrats are the party of intolerance. VERY small tent right now. Full of leftists, progressives and aggressive socialists. The Dem party doesn't even exist any longer because they let radicals take it over. Once Pelosi and Schumer die off, it's all globalists, socialists and communists.
Don't worry. Reps will be here to save America from you and your racist past.

But not this story, the rest is what you brought to this thread.

True, but there are not enough of the KKK type raciest to matter.

Not all racists are in the KKK. The average racist today is strongly "conservative" (because naturally they want to conserve the racial hegemony that has been a part of this country's political/social structure), and becomes more so when you remind him/her of racial issues.

"In 2005, the political scientists Nicholas Valentino and David Sears demonstrated that a Southern man holding conservative positions on issues other than race is no more likely than a conservative Northerner to vote for a Democrat. But when the relevant identifier is anti-black, answers to survey questions—like whether one agrees “If blacks would only try harder they could be just as well off as whites”—white Southerners were twice as likely than white Northerners to refuse to vote Democratic. As another political scientist, Thomas Schaller, wrote in his 2006 book Whistling Past Dixie (which naturally quotes the infamous Atwater lines), “Despite the best efforts of Republican spinmeisters…the partisan impact of racial attitudes in the South is stronger today than in the past.” "

I hate to break it to you bud but claiming to "renounce all forms of racism" only to turn around and declare that there are "good" Nazis and white supremacists doesn't fly. Oh, and people like David Duke and his ilk love your Dear Leader.

The number of conservatives who this board who threw a tantrum over the removal of monuments to slavers and white supremacists is very telling.

Says the Democrat party of the KKK and Jim Crow, and the party who fought to keep slavery. Republicans have been way ahead of you for decades, if not centuries.

You do know that the construction "have been" is in the past tense, don't you?

What has happened is that "The MORE Reactionary Wing of the American Oligarchic Capitalist Party" and "The LESS Reactionary Wing of the American Oligarchic Capitalist Party" have simply exchanged labels so that those who were formerly "Democrats" are now "Republicans" and those who were formerly "Republicans" are now "Democrats".

The belief that the (old) "Democrats" are the same as (today's) "Democrats" and that the (old) "Republicans" are the same as (today's) "Republicans" is one held by those who operate on the assumption that the "label" is the "thing".
