Wow, is this ever good news....

Some cocoa may improve brain blood flow - Yahoo! News

A nice cup of the right kind of cocoa could hold the promise of promoting brain function as people age.

In an increasingly aging world, medical researchers are seeing more cases of dementia and are looking for ways to make brains work better.

One potential source of help may be flavanols, an antioxidant found in cocoa beans that can increase blood flow to the brain, researchers said Sunday at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science

Any testing participants needed? Where do I sign up?

It would be nice to find out who goes to starbucks more.... extreme liberals or fundis. It would explain alot.

As a card-carrying Chocoholic, this is great news!!

Hell yeah. I love science these days, ever since they published that regular wine consumption was good for you. Now they just need to start working on cupcakes.

Mmmm....cupcakes....

Yeah, but they always add that little caveat, 'In Moderation'.

Damn, if a little bit is good, then a whole lot should be better...LOL...

Yahoo News, eh? lol

Hardly a reliable source for brain chemistry. Funny thing about the article is that it equates "blood flow to the brain" as something that contributes to increased performance of a task. The arcticle didn't even say whether or not the participants did better on the tests under MRI, but "blood flow to the brain" was increase.

What does it mean when you have more blood in your brain? More activity? More metabolising? More thinking? These are all assumptions. However, thinking does require blood flow in the brain, but that doesn't mean more blood flow in the brain will make you think more. You can't inject blood in the brain and expect you to perform better, that's not how it works. Brain chemistry is more complicated than a simple bidirectional effect.

Basically, this entire article is a form of advertisement. Oh, and what do you know! Mars, Inc. and Hershey's is mentioned at the very bottom of the article. There's a new candy bar coming out....So much for Yahoo News.

Sorry to pop your bubble chocolate lovers

Well, watch out for cocoa that's secretly got coffee in it.
We bought some expensive cocoa awhile back- I think it was Ghirardelli or something, and decided to have a nice relaxing cup of it before bed.
We were up bouncing off the walls until about 4 am.
Finally bothered to read the label and discovered that the stuff was "a blend of cocoa and coffee". Caveat emptor.
