This whole thing is just plain disgusting. Are we supposed to believe that this soldier is repentant for what he did because he's weeping on the stand over his gang raping a 14-year-old girl? The only reason he is weeping is because he got caught. His description of what happened is sickening.

“She kept squirming and trying to keep her legs closed and saying stuff in Arabic,” said Sergeant Cortez, who was flanked by his civilian and military lawyers.

"I lifted up her skirt and took off her stockings while Barker held her hands with his knees," he said before admitting that he raped the teenager as she screamed. "After I was done, myself and Barker switched spots."

I just cannot fathom what can go through their minds in holding down this young girl who did NOTHING to deserve this. They switched spots? What do they say to each other at the time? "Oh, it's my turn. Let's switch." What the hell kind of mentality is that? What I just don't understand is how this many people can have the same mindset and be this evil. I can see how one sick individual can behave in this abhorrent manner, but this many people at the same time? I hope he goes to jail for the rest of his pathetic life.

I have NO sympathy when someone expresses remorse AFTER they are caught for their crime. May this guy get his payback while in jail in a worse manner than he did to that little, innocent girl.

Hopefully NP will come out and defend this poor girl who will probably be scarred for the rest of whatever natural life she has left.

It's sad to see events like these happen. They tend to fuel the minds those crazy people that disrespect the troops and use any excuse to try and tarnish their image. It wont take long for that sort of people to come out and invade a thread like this one. I'm willing to bet they'll do it before post #15. Care to make that wager?

Oh, Hatuey, they killed the girl after they gang-raped her.

OH! I missed that part...I thought they only raped her and killed her family...Yeah I deff. read this article too fast. :S wow...sickening....however the only people responsible for this are these men. Nobody else.

Totally agree. If I were that girl, I would have wanted to be killed. The thought of men holding me down, taking turns on me, and killing my family is so horrifying that I would rather be put out of my misery.

No excuse for that. NONE what so ever.

Hope they enjoy their stay at Leavenworth.

It is good to see this soldier be tried and sentenced to the full extent of the law.......

That said I hope you liberals don't try and paint all our troops with the same brush like Kerry did in Viet Nam becasue that is simply not the case........

I'm curious why talloulou thanked Navy Pride for this post. I hope it's for the former paragraph and not the latter.

Navy Pride, I don't know why you are incapable of condemning this soldier's behavior without taking a jab at liberals and/or John Kerry. Why is that?

I thanked his post because I think soldiers that do things like this are heinous monsters and at the same time I recognize that this behavior is not representative of our soldiers in general and it would be wrong of anyone to claim this type of behavior was representative of the men and women who are out there making great sacrifices for our country. There's always gonna be bad eggs in any basket. I'm glad this one was caught and will be punished.

Aps, what part of this statement do you not understand?

It is good to see this soldier be tried and sentenced to the full extent of the law.......

All I am saying is don't blame the 150,000 other troops in Iraq for 1 bad apple like the left and Kerry did in Vietnam.......That is why the troops were treated so badly upon their return from Nam.......I don't want to see the same thin happen here......

NO ONE within this thread had made a derogatory comment about all troops, so I see no reason why you would need so say something about it. Just admit that you're not capable of saying something on this message board without making a nasty comment about libs.

He "weeped" because he got caught and is now going to pay for it for the rest of his life. He shed no tears for the disservice he did that family. No tears were shed for the deep smear across his military branch he caused and the embarrassment felt by all military members in uniform. And he showed no care for his duty to his mission as the ramifications of his dispicable deed rippled throughout the Muslim community.

I hate this guy and he's lucky I'm not handing out the punishment.

Amen! I actually cried when I read the article in the Washington Post this morning because I cannot imagine what that poor girl went through.

Meanwhile, thousands upon thousands of decent men and women serve in Iraq every day with honor and dignity. But you wouldn't be interested.

I'm going to pretend you didn't say that, CurrentAffairs. You're pitiful.

By the way, in case you don't know, I work for the Dept. of Veterans Affairs, and I have worked here for the last 10 years. I serve veterans EVERY DAY. I do volunteer work for them. So don't for a second tell me that I don't have respect for those who serve our country. I CHOOSE to work here. I could work in the private sector for a lot more money.

I didn't say anything about respect, aps. I'm certain you respect the good guys. So go ahead, start a thread on one of them. It would be refreshing.

Another one of lifes scumbags

Do you know what really bothers me about this kind of **** is that there is no excuse for rape its not stealing bread to feed their family its just ****ing sick. I have no understanding of it sex in general isnt enjoyable unless the other person is enjoying it.

**** him he can die for all i care some murderers deserve sympathy sometimes but there is no excuse for rape.

Amen! I actually cried when I read the article in the Washington Post this morning because I cannot imagine what that poor girl went through.

Rape amongst Muslims is considered not only an assault on the victim but a grave offense against her entire family and community. This act served to remind them of Saddam Hussein's rule, when wives and daughters were raped in front of their husbands and fathers to exact confessions from the men.

Only this time it wasn't an Iraqi soldier committing the act. It was Americans sent over to help them.

Our military is amongst the most proffessional in the world and indeed history. Our weakness is that we are made up of humans. Try as we may, we cannot mold robots, nor do we want that. The only way to deter such acts in a proffessional organization like a military is to hand down the punishment swiftly and harshly.

If this does not happen, we are doing a disservice to the victims, everyone in an American uniform, our critical "allies," and our own American citizens who are always asked to trust our efforts.

I truly am disgusted over this.

Yeah Aps shame on you. Why dont you post about how things in Iraq are going as Cheney said "Pretty well".

Because rape isn't a sex act. It has nothing to do with sex. Rape is an act of violence and power.

I don't get it either???? How could these men get physically aroused in front of each other while committing such a despicable act? Is it the "high" of degrading another human being?

Considering rape is a sex crime. I think it has something to do with sex...

Sorry, but you're misinformed. Of course it is a sex act, but not for the perpetrator. He is not looking to get sexual satisfaction. Rape is about having power over his attacker.

What happened to this Barker guy? He was involved too was he not?

I personally think they should both be shot in the head and removed from this realm.

Nah, you just assumed that I am not interested in writing about them since I haven't posted about them. Assume all you want.

Why don't you start a thread on the good guys since you seem to want one?

*wonders if this case hit close to home with CurrentAffairs so he feels defensive about the behavior of this soldier*
