Society - and Habit Grooming Media & What WE call Entertainment.

We have a mass of Movies, Video Games, and Even Music, that is contentious, murderous, destructive and even some of the entertainer are continually into conflict and assaults, and even murders.
Then we wonder why society is so violent. PEOPLE are "creatures of habit" and the habit is to indulge these things. It goes even further, because even TV commercials have "daredevil" acts in how they promote various things, Car commercials, show vehicles in scenes that do things that would never be legal on public streets, but that's the sales theme.

Decades ago, we did not have everything to the level of "incessant extremes of destruction".... Sadly, it even cartoons from long ago, were very brutal.

But today, the people who create video games, are nothing like the society that created "Board Games".

When I scroll through movies, its even a challenge to find movies that are not horror movies, murder mysteries, or some form of crime and mayhem. Destruction and Killing seems to sell, and then follow that up with "hyper sexualized images of women", even kids shows have that sexualization component. What we see of many of the entertainer, is they develop psychological issues when they reach their late teens or adult hood... because there is no "erasing the mind', and when they are trained to be "sexually provocative"... and later they want to try to escape being sexual objects, but they can't, because once the trend is set... it's how they are promoted, and if they don't accept that type of promotion, they often get no more acting roles.

We are not the "intellegent and ethical society" we like to pretend that we are. We are not the non material obsessed society we think we are, and We are not the non vouyeristic society we think we are. Sex, Power Games, Materialism, Mayhem, Murderous, and Destruction, is the tonality of the media we consume. Soap Opera's have been promoting blackmail, deception, sexual manipulation, sexual bartering and using sex as a 'anything tool"... has long been the theme and basis of Soap Opera's and then Prime Time TV, is all about 'sexual provocative inuendo's", followed by a laugh track and then wrapped in insidious acts, that again is followed by a laugh track.

that's the Media we consume, and we have not even began to discuss the madness of the News... They "Dramatize" anything and then repeat it hour by hour, with different faces spinning the same, Then there's the Right Wing Media that is designed to promote 'Attack something driven anguish promotions' 24/7, and when there is nothing to promote anguish about, they have pundits that conjure up something to promote anguished and indoctrinate people to claim they are aggrieved about anything. Example; the crazy outrage over Mr. Potato head.

It's not likely any of this will change.....
  • (Especially when Games and TV NOW raise kids, because parents are on a desperate money chase, to maintain and provide, so they spend in high volume on thse things, they use as 'child sitting tools".... and the child get raised by "Digital Games" and "TV" and Anguish Based Music. )

Add in the Smart Phones, even adults can't even complete a work day, without playing digital games.
Add in SOCIAL MEDIA and what results is People can no longer have a conversation or a debate, without it becoming a mutual condition of being enraged and ready to "kill the other" over a difference of opinion.
  • Often its Opinions that are promoted by "Media Pundits" that shape people Opinions. Rarely does the individual read and research to find truth based on individual self responsible critical thinking.

What may need to change is "Educating People" how to Discern between TV, Movies and Reality, and how to Discern between what is a Game and what is Real Life.

I violently kill hundreds of characters when I play Lord of the Rings Online, but they're mostly orcs, goblins, wargs and such. There is this one little girl named Sara Oakheart I'd like to kill and can't. They keep making me rescue her and the bitch walks so damned slow. Ugh. She must die, I'm going to start a petition.

As long as capitalism is the economic system, people who produce things are going to produce things that make a profit.

We shouldn't blame Hollywood for producing things that make a profit. We should either blame the consumers for consuming those things, or the economic system that promotes profit over social good.

Capitalism is not the problem... It's people who have a ill responsibility of what and how capitalism was designed to function, who abuse it for the sake of Greed Chasing by Any Means.
  • It was not designed as a get rich quick scheme by any means.
It is an economic system that was designed based on the usage of denominational currency to facilitate a fair measure of exchange.

Getting Rich... is a Man Made Societal Designed Self Measure Agenda that has been imposed within the ideology of society.

There are many things "Often" within Higher Educated Communities", that are far different than what's in lesser educated communities. The higher educated communities, continue to pursue giving their kids education that helps them learn, develop and grow into people who don't base their life around, TV and Video Media, many of their kids activities involve things that help them develop competency in things that are far different than being consumed into the same things that is common in general society.

I've yet to go to a community where people are highly educated and see "litter all over the streets", or people walking around looking like Raggedy Pete and raggedy Ann dolls. What I have seen is kids who are enrolled in programs that help them develop a variety of skill and expand on their talents and pursue many things that help advance society.

EDUCATION MATTER... but as long as we diminish it, and limit its ability to grow, research and present information that young people can be inspired to embrace in learning how to make better society.
We will continue to get more of the same.

Reality TV took America and Many other places around the world... to a level of "idiocy" for fame... to an absurd level that has been followed by social media, where everything thinks they will become one of "popularity" and be made wealthy, and we have masses of people who don't care what they do in the pursuit of such.

I don't know what will change society.... other than "Education".... or "The Lack of Education"... but it may be one of the two.

If a system is easily abused, then that is a weakness of the system.

If a system is easily abused, then that is a weakness of the system.
Not necessarily, it is oftentimes people who try and do engage any means and methods to "circumvent" the system. People are malicious, "on can put a pad lock on a door" and people will "cut the pad lock" to gain entry, when they know it was locked for a reason.

People love to ignore, circumvent and try and fight against "Regulatory Principles"... (People are willfully of choice, to ignore the fact that "Freedom" is based on "Responsibility".

  • We still have a mass of "IGNORANT" people, who think "freedoms means do anything they want, any ways they want, by any means they want, to whom ever they want and whenever they way, and if they have money, they think with money they can buy way any responsibility they should uphold and respect. )

When it comes to "money", people have engaged every kind of vile and evil that the mind of mankind can conjure up, and the lives of people become less important when people are obsessed with the pursuit and acquisition of money, power and sex.
  • That includes the fact that people will use power and sex as well as money to get more money, more sex and more power.
In the big picture of Life... it equates to the "obsessions of mankind's vanity and lack of virtues for and of the base principles of life", and in the whole of it... no one takes anything from this earth including their own body when the spirit of soul leaves that body.

We've become as a people more vain and more weak in many ways because of our vanity.... and people seem to try to blame that weakness of everything but themselves.

Look about our World --- SOME people ignore so much....
Simple Example: Our Oceans are polluted with "plastic of every type", and more and more is dumped everyday, we became obsessed with disposable good, that have no type of recycling program that mandates recycling, so, "anything and everything goes into the land fills" and what does not go there, is scatter about the earth.
Places

We are not as Civilized as we would like to think as a society... because we abuse so much, take so much for granted, and we disregard the fact that we all live on the same earth.

We certainly can't start a Global Education System... because too many types of belief's exist among and throughout the volume of people on earth.

We can keep our systems and we can even create more systems... but until there is enforcement mechanism that uphold those system regulation, we will continue to have "Chaos".

Some of it is controlled "Chaos", and some is Random Uncontrolled Chaos.

Wow, what a mess of a post. Anyway:

Yes, mass media is mobbed with mayhem. (Say that 5 times fast!) I for one abhor the extent to which violence is treated as a source of entertainment.

However, the reality is that there is no correlation whatsoever between violence in entertainment, and violence in society. To wit:

• Studies have not shown any strong relationship between violent entertainment and criminal or anti-social behavior.

• No one has even sufficiently correlated the amount of violent entertainment, or how much the public watches violent entertainment, and crime rates.

• Violent crime rates peaked in the US in the early 90s, while entertainment (games in particular) have likely only increased in violent content. Violent crime was cut nearly in half by 2015. Explain.

• Nations with very low crime rates (e.g. Japan) are awash in violent entertainment. How is that possible? Explain.

• People of all ages engage in violent entertainment, but we also know that people age out of crime. Explain.

When I scroll through movies, its even a challenge to find movies that are not horror movies, murder mysteries, or some form of crime and mayhem.
It is a bit tough, but it's not all that hard.

Plus, most streaming services now have algorithms that should prioritize shows or movies that they believe you will prefer.

We are not the "intellegent and ethical society" we like to pretend that we are.
What are you basing that on?

For example, research suggests that societies in the past were far more violent than today. Wars were constant, police forces almost non-existent, crime rampant by modern standards. The most violent cities in the world today, for example, have the same crime rate as the average city in Europe during the Middle Ages. In ancient Rome, even the ultra-wealthy had to worry about getting attacked in the streets.

We also appear to have far less wars than in the past. In prehistoric societies, archaeological research suggests that up to 60% of deaths were due to violence. In comparison, between 1900 and 1960, only 1% of US and European deaths were due to violence -- and that encompasses two massive wars.

What may need to change is "Educating People" how to Discern between TV, Movies and Reality, and how to Discern between what is a Game and what is Real Life.
Actually, it seems like people have pretty much figured that out, at least as far as crime is concerned. Problem solved.

You are desperate to defend capitalism, but it doesn't need defending.

Capitalism doesn't care about the public good, it cares about what is profitable. It is what it is.

Not sure why anyone would try and pretend that capitalism is concerned about the public good.

Have you ever heard the phrase " Life Imitates Art".

Basically, my commentary is "Summarized as OPINION(s)" -

The motivation for writing the OP..... is my personal feeling of being tired of the crazed violence that seems to have overtaken society.
