26 billionaires own as much as 3.8 billion other people globally.
This is a global problem as well as a problem in the US.
Most of the billionaires included in this article are Americans.
Portions of income at business, corporate, and individual levels are capped for Social Security Tax. Any thing made above the capped levels are free of the Social Security Tax. This means many billions of dollars above those capped levels escape the tax. No one disputes that originators of business and jobs should be richly reward. Should Social Security benefits be cut, eliminated, or perpetuated by redistribution of wealth by taxation?
Millions of retired Americans depend on Social Security alone to live. It may not have been designed to do that but that is many millions of Americans reality. There is no reason to suspect that will ever change and may even be exacerbated by a business environment that values workers less.
