Social Security Benefits From Dividends before full retirement age

So, am I understanding this straight. Your income from dividends is not counted towards credit for social security? So, it won't count for the 40 credits necessary for medicare and social security? That sucks. Is that correct?

That is true. It needs to be what the IRS considers 'earned income'. The logic being that when you have earned income you & your employer are paying in social security tax.
