*government by the people; especially : rule of the majority.
I (and many others), would say we really don't. Actually the waste and malfeasance and pig outs at the public trough suggest we don't, since 'we' the collective we would NEVER have voted for such behavior.
'We' didn't authorize many of the (waste) expenses our elected, appointed and clerical or department heads choose to expend on personal agendas and self serving objectives.
I-we, never had a say in the political ploys and patronage costing billions in our Ontario government follies. E Health, Gas plant chess, Ornge etc.
I never had a say in allowing the continued sale of contraband tobacco, the governments ignoring insurrection in Caledonia, adding pre kindergarten, bribing teachers, Liberal green energy debacle etc.
When our dollars are taken in taxes we have a democratic RIGHT to expect they will be treated as our money, not some Wallin or Duffy type trough to pa expenses from. Not for an Oda glass of 'royalty entitlement' juice!
when the Feds run a G20 or G8 we have every right to expect them to keep costs(location/security and pork) in line by consideration that it is OUR MONEY they are expending, not a wish list contingency fund!
When a job needs filling, an employee hired a contract negotiated, the impact on the tax payer,THE SOURCE OF THE Revenue to be expended should be of the first priority. The sheer magnitude of the size and cost of government demands due diligence from our representatives, appointees and administrators.
Further, those that fail their responsibility to the tax payer and electorate need be dealt with accordingly, not with a wrist slap, but with the full extent of the
authority..resignation..fine..criminal court.
If we are to consider our selves as a Democracy, we need our leaders, officials and appointees to understand the term accountability.
IT IS OUR MONEY!
Not yours you twits!
