So then, what is a reasonable DACA/Border deal look like?

I believe the reason to bring democrats in is cause they need 60 votes in the senate to pass spending for the wall or to end chain migration.

I don't believe democrats will voluntarily agree to either of those things. They are currently trying to hold the budget hostage rather than compromise. Trump should call their bluff and let the dems shut the gov down. Trump set the terms and the dems simply rejected it and threatening to cut off funding. I'm ok with taking a hard line against political blackmail. Dems have a lot less leverage than they think and once the funding gets passed (because it will without DACA) they can can deal with an even less cooperative president in the future on upcoming things the dems want.

That's why your side is a joke.

And that's not compromise by any measure of the word.

I would like to see a path to legal residency for DACA recipients that may lead to citizenship. For border security I would prefer a high tech approach as opposed to a wall.

The "merit" should be on an individual level...not a national or racial level.

And just how do you think that will go. Might as well put up a sign that says white only.

Trump already compromised. He didn't outright end DACA. His compromise was to give Congress a chance to pass a law.

And then when a bipartisan bill was presented to him he shot it down after promising he would sign it. He is a fool if he thinks the Dems will help him pass a spending bill without it. They will not get one Democratic vote.

So pretty much the way North Korea does it. Got it.

Let me just grab my grinding wheel and get rid of that pesky phrase on the Statue of Liberty.

Also can we get real on what border security is the border patrol agency employes 22,000 employees. They say 18,000 work on the southern border. The southern border is 2200 miles long.
If it takes 5 people to run a 24/7 watch thats 11,000 people needed to have 1 cop watch 1 mile 24/7. Seems like they have enough employees to make a human wall

Go ahead it was made by France anyways

I want the 14 billion dollar wall and ending chain migration without protection for DACA
so where do we compramise?

Do you mean "anchor babies"? Because "chain migration" is just a bunch of not-necessarily-related people from the same area migrating here after someone else (or several someones) from the same area migrated here. A phenomenon that would be handled through any migration mitigation measures, without targeting "chain migration" specifically.

Actually that is what Trump has said by calling Africa and Haiti ****holes...

Do you think Africa and Haiti are the only places on earth that have non-white people

That's 8 employees per mile!!

No im talking about our legal immigration process. If you have a family member thats already a citizen living here you get put on the top of list to come in.

No thats 2 employees per mile 24/7.
But thats not leaving anything for Puerto Rico, Florida coast, Canada border, border check stations, border crossing stations, management, HR, payroll clerks, secretaries, vehicle maintenance, fencing repairers, and rapid response units.

That's exactly the type of immigration I think we should encourage (as we do). If one family member is already here and has a green card or has become a permanent resident without a criminal record, I assume that would increase the chances of one of their family members being a productive member of society.

18,000 / 2200 = 8

how they get divvied up on the work schedule is another story.

That "bipartisan bill" didn't abide by his few conditions. That's why he shot it down.

The Dems will shoot themselves in the ass if they make this about a spending bill.

Actually, that's not.

The Congressmen wanted to keep immigration opportunities in play that DO NOT consider merit. That's not what Trump will accept.

Typical ignorant liberal talking point.

The bill presented would only provide $1.6 billion of the $16 -$18 billion needed for the wall and that amount had already been allocated previously.

90% of our immigration is from family sponsored visas. While 5% is for diversity lottery and 5% is other.
Id like to see added a merit based system and a true random lottery.
Id also like to see the who qualifies as family scaled back. Currently, siblings, parents, grandparents, cousins, nieces & nephews get it. Id like to see that scaled back to just siblings.
And proportions like 50% merit based. 30% family sponsored. 10% true random lottery to give hope fairly to all those on the list even if their on back of the list. 5% for the diversity lottery. 5% other

Why do we need a random lottery for diversity? Seems to me to be an excuse to allow some in we have already rejected for cause.

Same with family exceptions. Why? Shouldn't we be choosing based on what we need?

You want to screen some immigrants really carefully and then some other ones not at all? How is that helpful?

Why? What's the end game on a play like that?

Is there a basis for these percentages? Or do they just make you feel good?

I was giving you what I personally liked. Trump wants to do away with the lottery altogether but i like the american dream hope that gives to people who dont have a bunch if close family member here.
I think a merit based system fairs better for everyone here but i think people who are partial to the way things are now dont like it, mostly people who have family members that they're trying to get over here. So i think proportions can be negotiated.

Here is an example of a merit based system idea sorry i cant link it it right now.
