KILIS, Turkey, (Reuters) - Two rockets hit the Turkish town of Kilis near the Syrian border on Sunday, a Reuters witness reported, wounding 16 people a day after the government promised to protect the area from repeated attacks by Islamic State militants.

The rockets struck two houses in a poor neighborhood near the town center. Sixteen people were injured and Turkish soldiers near the border returned fire into Syria, security sources said.

Why hasn't Turkey destroyed ISIS by now. Would be not that hard. One of the largest armies in the world right next to ISIS but allowing them to exist.

Same reason we couldn't beat the Viet Cong, and the Nazis couldn't get rid of the French resistance fighters - you just can't root them all out. On top of that, Turkey isn't even in charge of all the territory that ISIS is occupying, so there's an added level of difficulty on top of having to try and combat guerrilla warfare.

They are more worried about the Kurds.

We aren't willing to zap our foes like Caesar did Vercingetorix and his merry Celts. But I'm a little disappointed in the cruel Turk. He was known as more determined in the past.

Actually, we did beat the Viet Cong.

The reason Turkey doesn't want to go all out on ISIS, is because ISIS enjoys a high degree of support within the Muslim community.

The same reasons we haven't. What makes Turkey any different to the US or major European powers? They're closer but we've got more than sufficient resource to get our forces there (we did with Iraq - twice).

Perhaps because they are the neighbors?

Yes, but as I said, that doesn't really make much practical difference between their and our abilities to launch a ground offensive and the common political narrative is that ISIS poses as much (if different) threat to us as it does to them.

The fact remains that distance isn't the only reason nobody else has launched a ground offensive against ISIS. Those reasons apply to Turkey as much as anyone else.

Actually, Turkey and ISIS are good friends. That's why they haven't been destroyed. Greetings, Mr. Invisible. :2wave:

I thought Turkey was supposedly our ally! "With friends like that, who needs enemies" seems to apply here! What kind of game is this? WTH?

Actually, Turkey is not friend of any terrorist organisation, unlike USA with support of PYD terrorists, or German support of PYD, whom both those countries recognise as terroist organisation under a different name PKK, which Turkey bombs the bases of in North Iraq aftar each attack of PKK/PYD.

Who is PYD?

In February 2015, the Autonomous Administration’s military wing, the YPG (the People’s Protection Units), took control of the area, which had been under IS control, and began demolitions, displacing villagers. Researchers visiting Husseiniya saw ruins of destroyed homes and interviewed eyewitnesses.

“They pulled us out of our homes and began burning the home… they brought the bulldozers... They demolished home after home until the entire village was destroyed,” said one witness.

Syria’s president, Bashar Assad, ceded them to a group known as the Democratic Unity Party (PYD) so that he could concentrate his fight against rebels elsewhere. The PYD and its armed wing, the People’s Defence Units (YPG), are closely linked to the PKK.

The PKK terrorists who carried out the Ankara attacks were lauded in a city controlled by the Democratic Union Party (PYD) with their photos displayed on a building.
A photograph of the poster hanging on a building in al-Malikiyah shows the picture of suicide bombers Abdülbaki Sömer and Seher Çağla Demir beside a picture of imprisoned PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan. Sömer carried out a terrorist attack in Ankara on Feb. 17 that claimed 29 lives. The blast, which targeted military buses, also left scores wounded. Demir was responsible for the suicide car bombing in Ankara that killed 37 people in March.

After silencing dissident Syrian Kurds, PYD/YPG draws ire for blocking 6,000 peshmerga fighters

The PYD has forced 13 Syrian Kurdish parties to leave PYD territory. All of these parties are represented in the Syrian National Coalition that supports the territorial integrity of a free Syria.

Azizi pointed to the permanent U.N. representative in Syria, Bashar Jaafari, who announced that PYD is part of the Assad regime.

Following a closed-door U.N. Security Council meeting on Feb. 17, Jaafari said: "These Syrian Kurds supported by the American administration are also supported by the Syrian government."

Actually, we did beat the Viet Cong.
We may have beaten them on the battlefield but we lost the war anyway.

Um, no, very few Muslims support ISIS. In fact the ones leading the fight against them are... Muslims.

So in other words, you don't have any evidence to counter what I said. Got it.

Nothing you said is even remotely related to what I was talking about. I was discussing Turkey's support for ISIS. You've provided not a bit of evidence to the contrary, but instead came in and bashed Kurds.

Turkey is a member of NATO, and Incirlik base is used to bomb IS bases, if that does not prove There is no support of Turkey for IS, nothing can.

Will you prove that USA does not support kurdish terrorist PYD/PKK, even though which is recognised as terrorist by USA?

Or, you admit USA does really support kurdish terrorists who do ethinc cleansing, commit war crimes, kill innocent people in Syria and Turkey.

So, once again, I provided evidence that Turkey aids ISIS and you can't really come up with any rebuttals. Got it.

I provided that Turkey is in fight against IS, however, you cannot say anything that USA really supports kurdish terrorists, who do ethnic cleansing, commit war crimes, and kill innocent people with the weapons of USA.

I am sure it is breach of some international treaties, and against the NATO rules. USA is betraying Turkey and NATO; its own laws over terrorism, also international laws.

Who is ignoring the current reality is obvious.

We aren't talking about the Kurds. We are talking about Turkish support for ISIS.

All you did was provide evidence that the Turks were bombing the Kurds.

Here is ISIS and Turkish 'relationship' in the last week:

The Islamic State released a video Thursday purportedly showing its fighters firing antitank guided missiles at Turkish positions, possibly destroying what appears to be two self-propelled artillery pieces and a tank.

According to the video description, the attack occurred on the Turkey-Syria border. Once a conduit for foreign fighters, Turkey has since tried to limit the illegal traffic of people and equipment flowing into the region after facing pressure from the United States and other Western countries.

I posted linkes that mention some terrorist actions of PYD, which is supported by USA. However, you avoid mentioning, intersting.

I will continue proving PYD terrorist activities and USA confession that PYD and PKK has link.

During testimony before a Senate panel, Ash Carter said "yes" when asked by Sen. Lindsey Graham whether the PYD and its military wing, the YPG, are aligned with the outlawed PKK terror group.

But Sen. Graham contradicted him saying that he was recently in Turkey and the government there is not happy with U.S. support for a terror group.

"They think this is the dumbest idea in the world and I agree with them," Graham said.

US defense chief admits PYD, YPG, PKK link

The PKK is recognised as terrorist organisation by USA, however, PYD is being supported with weapons, and airstrikes by the same USA.

In Syria, The same PYD commits war crimes, does ethnic cleansing in places captured with the help of USA-airstrikes and air-dropeed weapons.

This is against the int. laws, and treachery in NATO.

It is like That a NATO member supports Al-Qaeda terror attacks in USA.

Will you still avoid?

The United Nations’ landmark Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) was signed by USA, however she violates it by supporting PYD, Syrian branch of PKK. This means USA goes against Article 18 of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties (VCLT).
