What would you think if the dems offered the R's, ten billion in border security, stipulating 1.7 billion can be used for a wall but the rest has to go to upgrades, more border patrol agents and new technology, that sort of thing.

In exchange the democrats get whatever their number one choice is and an immediate reopening of government.

And the next time a president, any president tries the hostage trick, they are immediately impeached and kicked out of office.

Do the Democrats like it? If so, then **** no.

I feel like the government should be reopened before any compromise is considered. I don't like rewarding a president of any party who shuts down the government until he gets his way.

Trump would probably take the 1.7B to get his wall started but giving the Democrats anything they wanted without knowing what it is first is a nonstarter.

Secondly what you call hostage taking is exactly the way our government is designed to operate. The potus is not a rubber stamp position for congress. The potus must get congressional approval for things he wants and Congress must get his approval for things they want. The only exception being when Congress forms a supermajority to override the presidents veto. It's a horrible idea to dispose of that dynamic just because it will satisfy a short term desire.
