WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Stacey Abrams, who nearly became both the first African-American and first woman governor of Georgia, landed a few jabs against President Donald Trump after his State of the Union address while calling for an economic boost for working and middle-class Americans.

Delivering the Democratic Party’s response to his State of the Union address, Abrams struck a tone that might influence other Democrats still searching for the right way to challenge Trump in the election in 2020, when he will seek a second term.

She called Trump's shutdown a 'a stunt engineered by the president of the United States, one that defied every tenet of fairness and abandoned not just our people but our values.'

It was a stunt and Trump proved it. He didn't need to shut down the government since he claims it falls under a National Emergency. Trump's OWN WORDS show the shutdown was his fault and it was just a stunt since it didn't need to happen. Cons are proving that they post the most dishonest comments EVER and they are never to be trusted and should be ridiculed at every step of the way.

SOTU rebuttals are always bad and this was no exception. It should have been a speech outlining how the DNC intends to lead the nation into the future. What we got was complaining about things that happened two weeks ago, sour grapes over her gubernatorial loss, and calling everyone she disagrees with a racist.

IF Congress and the President would do their jobs there would not have been a shutdown. Seems Congress has lost sight of the budget process timelines.

Both houses did their job. Trump didn’t like what they came up with so he shut down the government for more than month, badly screwing over 800,000 government workers, their families, contractors, and others who make their livings providing services to all of them, and in the end Trump capitulated. A failed Trump stunt.

Both houses (Dems and Republicans) passed a CR to Trump in December. That’s a fact. Deal with it.

You missed my point. Congress is way late in developing budgets. They tend to us CR's to kick the can down the road. Congress has relied on CR's for way to many years. I also was not just addressing the latest shutdown. Congress is 5 months into the current fiscal year with no final budget. They should be working on 2020 budget.

The President will continue to SEAT JUDGES, ( GINSBERG'S SEAT BEFORE LONG) FILL HIS CABINET, BUILD HIS WALL, and VETO anything the House passes, that miraculously makes it through the Senate, that he doesn't like, and there is not ONE DAMNED THING the House Dems can do about it.

She's right. It was a stunt.

That should seal Trump's fate in the 2020 election: 800,000+ victims of his stunt will not vote for a RED egomaniac. Elections have been very close. Eight-hundred thousand & more should be more than enough. Another shutdown & he might as well pack his & Melanoma's bags.

Lulz. Fun when you consider that one needs a spreadsheet to keep track of all the federal and state investigations into wittle Donnie and his administration.

Even funerer when one considers all the subpoenas that go along with it.

I just love fun. Don't you?

Trump is like the central tragic figure in a Greek or Shakespaerean tragedy: a fatal flaw in his stars or character spell inevitable doom.
