It should be, but somehow the American bourgeois have convinced their serfs that it's their fault that they're poor.
"Just work harder and stop complaining, prole, you have no one to blame but yourself!"
It's like a multi-level marketing scheme or something.
The fact that people constantly leave the lower class and enter into the upper class is proof that it's not a mere illusion.
If people *want* they *can* shift upward. It's more of an issue of getting their priorities straight and making the right choices.
And the government gives an immense amount of help in the process.
But it's still not 100% successful - all the many efforts. Yes, sure, we have people who try and don't succeed.
Example of priorities being all jumbled:
Someone having a cellphone, inefficient and costly central heat/air, cellphone with a beefed up packages, over-average food consumption, excesses that aren't necessities like smoking or drinking frequently, high speed expensive internet, an expensive vehicle or an expensive living space when a less expensive option was available (always is).
But then complaining that their out of pocket premiums for health insurance are too high - and expecting the government to help out.
