Mugabe Goodwill Ambassador controversy
On 18 October 2017, Tedros Adhanom announced that he had chosen President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe to serve as a WHO Goodwill Ambassador to help tackle non-communicable diseases for Africa.[59] He said Zimbabwe was "a country that places universal health coverage and health promotion at the centre of its policies to provide health care to all". Mugabe's appointment was severely criticised, with WHO member states and international organisations saying that Zimbabwe's healthcare system had in fact gone backwards under his regime, as well as pointing out Mugabe's many human rights abuses. It was also noted that Mugabe himself does not use his own country's health system, instead travelling to Singapore for treatment.[60][61] Observers said Tedros was returning a campaign favour. Mugabe was chair of the African Union when Tedros was endorsed as a sole African Union candidate in a murky process that didn't consider qualified alternatives like Michel Sidibé of Mali and Awa Marie Coll-Seck of Senegal.[62] His judgement was widely questioned on social media. The editor-in-chief of Lancet, the prominent medical journal called Tedros "Dictator-General".[63] After a widespread condemnation, on 22 October 2017 Tedros Adhanom rescinded Mugabe's goodwill ambassador role.[64][65]"

The WHO isn't going to touch on things that offend China. Yes I think they want to do what they can to try and curb the pandemic, but I don't think they'll go so far as to stop gushing over how wonderful China has handled things or is praising them for stopping viral spread (a total lie).

Yes, there is still things we don't know but the virus was known last November, as well as last January.


The governments are actually doing more harm to the pubic over the long term than the coronavirus is doing. It could cause an international depression because it has become an actual international panic with every politician trying to outdo each other in restricting public movement. The cure is proving to be worse than the disease and can all be traced back to the corruption and misinformation coming out of WHO.
 
So let me paraphrase your position on WHO. Because they did something you do not like in the past, they are now not to be trusted. Does that sum up your position on them? Do you really believe that in this pandemic, they are providing advice and policies that are counter to halting the spread or discouraging actions to alleviate the suffering of people?

Contrary to all the medial experts, and even the Trump administration. Yeah, job slow downs is worse than thousands, if not hundreds of thousands (if doing nothing) dead.

There is no evidence that hundreds of thousands will die. Every year a new flu comes along and flu shots become available. That will soon come for the corona virus and despite this, like the flu, people will still die. We don't know who. but the usual victims are the weak and infirm.

The real conspiracy theory involves shutting down the planet because of a new flu virus. So far there have been fewer than 9.000 deaths in the entire world. For some perspective there were 67,637 drug deaths just in the US alone in 2018.. Where's the panic for that? In a few weeks there'll a cure and a prevention shot and maybe, until then, internationally, the death rate can triple. We don't know.

But what we do know is that the international economy is being destroyed because of a flu virus, and there have certainly been much worse than this one without shutting everything down and creating panic among those who are vulnerable to the sensation.

Because, the standard is: 100% perfection. Any decision that isn't 100% accurate and effective is considered an absolute failure.

Well there’s trust and on the other hand there’s trust.

The WHO did not purposefully lie, we don’t have to consider them to be malicious or deceitful and most of their information can be trusted, but what we must do is verify because the WHO has a different political orientation and is shown to be too unsuspicious of malicious actors.

Not true, the Chinese absolutely did know better.

Chinese government had already coerced doctors into recanting in December 30, they had already mapped the viruses genome on January 7, the virus was identified just after Christmas. President Xi was already involved in the response on January 7, the Communist party discussed the virus in session on January 11, and on January 19 after the preceding days lunar new year is when a team of epidemiologists were dispatched.

So by your date when you said no one knew better, the Chinese identified the virus, punished doctors, had closed a market, and notified the the communist party and president Xi.

It’s patently obvious that the Chinese knew what was occurring
 
Trump will be OK in his decisions if he is guided and follows WHO and CDC.

Late by what standard? He was ahead of all of Western Europe and Latin America and very ahead of Canada.

See you can’t just proclaim Donald Trump was wrong, you have to show how he realistically could’ve done better. A good way to show that is by showing if similarily situated world leaders, meaning not dictators in homegenous countries where public order is more important then personal liberty, acted better.

So let’s compare, did Trump act worse then Italy? Then France? Then Spain? Then Canada? Then Argentina? Then Germany?

No he took more action and sooner then all those countries.

What countries did Trumps response find lacking compared to?

Singapore, which is a de facto one party state, they have a parliament of 99 seats and like 95 of them are the same political party, South Korea and Taiwan, which are very recently democratic states and formerly dictatorships where the governments literally could become dictatorships again and no one would care. These countries all have histories of being screwed by China and also are very orderly and have strong internal loyalty.

Trump could not have possibly mobilized an ROK or Singapore style response. The heterogenous nature of our politics do not permit the president to make sweeping emergency declarations closing borders and public places on the mere possibility the Wubonic plague is actually a problem.

It's always been hard to trust anything coming out of the UN, and there is no reason to do so now.
