Situation --- typical American household -- two parents, one child, no history of endangerment, neglect or abuse noted. Child is 11 years old and tells his parents that he feels like he's really a girl. He wants to begin gender reassignment. Parents are very concerned and think he's way too young to make a decision like that. They do not start the process of gender reassignment. Should this child be taken away from his parents?

Where are health care and mental health care professionals in this story?

No. A minor's health decisions are up to the parent unless there are emergency situations. Even then, it would require the courts to step in.

Did they make an informed decision? With doctors, and physiological visits? Or did they just discuss it on the couch together and decided?

A child at that age is not mentally developed enough to make a decision like that. The parents are correct in putting the brakes on. There is no hurry to rush into it. Chances are within a few days he will change his mind. I knew a kid about that age who wanted to be a monkey.

A child at that age can be prosecuted as an adult if the crime is deemed heinous enough. Their mental development is the same.

What state treats a 11 year old as an adult in a crime situation? State name please!

The parents need to start asking questions where their child has gotten this idea from and address that source and that situation, be it from an external source or be it from the child themselves.

Parents are empowered and responsible for make decisions for their minor children.

So, you think someone who murders is mentally developed?

Um...are you sure you want to equate this with criminal activities?

No.

Parents are right...he's too young. Get a shrink involved and go from there. If he still thinks he's a "she" at the age of 18, then give the kid the options as to the route he wants to take.

Hell no, why? Since when do minors get to make those kinds of decisions and the parents get no say? Discuss it, call in some professionals and then once again say no. We love you honey and when you turn eighteen you can do as you wish, until then it's a no.

If a child is trying to make that decision at 11 I think they need to speak with a professional. That is not to say that it is wrong (I have a variety of opinions on that), however, a child this young needs to fully understand and I am not sure at 11 that they are capable.

Absolutely not.

No. Who would do the “taking away” of an 11 year old for simply disagreeing with their parents’ decision? If the 11 year old wanted a nose job, tattoo or a piercing and the parents said no would that warrant warrant having the child taken away from those mean parents?

No! An eleven year old can't make such a decision. The parents need to get the child some good counseling before anything is done.

Incarcerate the parents and give the kid a better home with a multi-racial, non-binary, open relationship, vegan, earth worshipping family. Heck, take ALL the kids away from all the parents and start a state run agency that teaches them inclusivity, tolerance and free love...except for all the poeple that don't deserve to be included, tolerated or loved because they suck.

Any parent that allows an 11 year old child to proceed with puberty blockers and/or consents to gender reassignment surgery for them, should have the child removed from their custody and then brought up on child abuse charges.

No. A minor should not even be allowed, by law, to have permanent life-changing surgery. It's gross that people think this is even a viable option.

Only "taken away" in a coroner's wagon or a hearse if the child resorts to suicide as remaining perceived recourse.

Seriously, get a life. These "concern" threads are too frequent at debatepolitics.com and too successful in attracting eyeballs not to be
regarded as diverting from the attention deserved by actual pressing political problems consequential to most of our households.
IOW, the wealthiest, RWE donors to G.O.P. invest huge sums intended to divert attention to non-issues like this thread's "question".

This is the "return" on their investment, all of the funding of "the bi-partisan infrastructure lefislation was borrowed and the IRS
budgeted appropriation is still lower than it was in 2013, now rinse, repeat....

"...But how did the Senate get there? The politics were fairly obvious: Infrastructure spending is very popular, and a significant number of Republicans didn’t want to be seen as complete obstructionists. What wasn’t clear, however, was how the spending would be financed.

On the surface, Republican demands should have made agreement impossible. G.O.P. senators were adamantly opposed to tax increases. They also blocked proposals to give the I.R.S. resources to crack down on widespread tax evasion — a stance that even cynics like yours truly found a bit shocking. What kind of party more or less openly aligns itself with wealthy tax cheats?"

That's what the OP is asking! The kid expressed a preference and the parents ignored their request. At that point the parents need to be removed from the equation and professionals need to be brought in to properly assess the situation and make the best decisions for all involved. The kid is too young to make a decision and the parents may well be making the wrong decision or making a decision based on ignorance, intolerance or, worst of all, some ****ed up form of religious commitment. The state is the one with the power to engage the best and brightest experts on these matters and, after substantial polling to validate the messaging, the state is the one, based on PROPER science (not fake science), make the proper decision for the kid...who may well have changed their mind and now identifies as Iron Man.

There is a big difference in knowing right from wrong and determining your sex in opposition to biology. I believe 14 is the youngest child covnvicted of murder without parole.

Not enough info to make an informed decision?

They both have undeveloped minds. There is no difference.
