Trump also lies a lot, so that must be considered. How often were we told that the details of TrumpCare, the best in all of history medical care plan, which would cover everyone and cost less, was coming soon? ;)
Wouldn’t look good over at Truth Social/Central or whatever Trump thinks it is called.

I definitely think it is time to bring back Donald Trump.

Elon Musk is a freedom of speech fundamentalist.

It will be good for Twitter to finally have competent management. Now the company has legs. Musk with his proven track record with Tesla and SpaceX is a proven winner. He will make Twitter great.

Freedom of Speech is not about "spewing the vitriol that Trump and Right Wing Fanatics Spew. "Freedom, in anything is first and foremost, about RESPONSIBILITY".

So it will become Gab. Why would that be a good thing, either for Twitter itself or its users?
You are sounding histrionic now, you are usually much more grounded than that to claim a failed slippery slope fallacy like this.

If somebody on Twitter posts something like "the election was stolen" (their opinion whether right or wrong), I believe that YOU of all people are intelligent to know that something like that is not comparable to posting Nazi hate speech, kiddie porn, or terrorist threats.

Come on, you know I'm right, admit it?

I would keep in mind that if Twitter allows one high-profile person to post lies or bully or post harmful, baseless declarations they'd have to allow others to do the same. It would only be fair to also allow "lefties" to post conspiracy theories or lies or personal attacks.

Has anyone actually been banned for claiming the election was stolen? If so, and if you are just arguing that Twitter should change its moderation policies on that topic, fine. Perhaps they should.

All I'm saying is the other social media platforms that have marketed themselves as "free speech" havens do not have a good track record. If Twitter is going to try to walk that line while remaining usable, they would be doing something unprecedented. I'll leave it to the reader to decide whether Elon Musk or Twitter is remotely capable of pulling that off.

Let us hope Musk is not a free speech absolutist.

As for Trump, no. He was destructive, puerile, and made millions of others into worse versions of themselves with that thing. Let him stay on his own special social media platform.

He's on the record stating Twitter content should not be moderated beyond the laws of the country it operates in.

Driving the news: In an onstage interview at the TED2022 conference, Musk said he believes Twitter should follow the laws of the countries it operates in and otherwise not regulate users' speech.

Straight-up, I suspect he will be forced to abridge his vision. The unmoderated internet platforms have historically devolved into cesspools of porn & anarchy. If Musk wants a universal platform for 'all' to use, he's going to run into user-acceptance problems with the type of content I referenced above.

Given Musk is on the record that Twitter should not be moderated beyond the laws of the host country, if he follows through as he described, he will end-up with a 4chan type platform!

Of course!

I assume that they allow President George Walker Bush (if he wanted to tweet), so why shouldn't President Trump be allowed to tweet?

President Bush is responsible for a horrific war based on misinformation. In fact, some people would characterize it as "disinformation." That war killed hundreds of thousands of people in the Middle East and erased Iraq as a buffer between Iran and the Arab world.

During President Trump's four years, no American soldiers died in a new war.

If anyone should be banned, it should logically be President Bush.

This "proven winner" crap reminds me of what y'all were calling Trump when he was a 2016 Pres Candidate. Admittedly, Musk has fared better than Trump by a long shot, largely because he has a brain, compared to Trump. It would be best if Trump crawled back under the rock he came from, or goes to prison. To whatever degree he shares his poison, it can only harm America, thru his gullible followers. Musk will do what he wants to do. It would be a good time for others to start up a competing platform for those who won't want to wallow in the "free speech" of the hater variety of conservatism. Give it a few years and reasonable people will look to jump off, is my hope. I don't use Twitter myself.

I'm not sure it's in his or his party's best interest for him to get back on Twitter. His shtick is getting kind of old and crazy.

Don't know, don't care.....I am not a twitter user or share holder. 🤷‍♂️

No, but he will.. Musk is incredibly stupid for a supposedly smart guy.

Yes. Twitter cited civic integrity policy as the reason why.

I've wondered about that. How hard is that to do?

Open the forbidden doors and good things will happen.

Imagine if debatepolitics opened the forbidden door. Do you know how much more discussion would be created with all the old members returning?
What "forbidden door?" For some bizarre reason, many right wingers think that anything that is said by anybody is worthy of debate/discussion. It is not. I have been on DP for over 3 years. It didn't take long, though, to determine whose posts were worth reading. I have 3 categories: worth reading because they are informative, worth reading because they amusing, and not worth reading.
