In 1915 a mural of Jefferson Davis - President of the Confederacy, Robert E Lee - Confederate General, and Stonewall Jackson - also a Confederate general - was carved into Stone Mountain, Georgia. This is considered the birthplace of the Ku Klux Klan. Cross burning rituals were performed there from 1915 thru 1958, when the State of Georgia purchased/took the property. The site has been owned by the State of Georgia ever since. In 1965 it was opened as a state park and is the #1 tourist destination in the state.

Should the State Of Georgia continue to operate a state park that markets a memorial to the president and generals of the Confederacy, which fought a war to preserve slavery and establish a permanent slave nation?

Whether or not the memorial "should" be destroyed is moot.

The question is: WHEN will it be destroyed?

Georgia is a-changing.

Eventually, the memorial will be destroyed.

Opponents of the memorial should quietly work behind the scenes to speed up the process.

Yes, but not out of anger, rather because we simply no longer value these men and what they stood for. They were traitors to America and fought to enslave human beings. We should resculpt the faces into faces of people that are worth admiring and remembering.

For those that oppose replacing the statues of traitors to the United States with actual heroes, do you think Germany should've kept all of its Hitler statues up? Or was there maybe a time they realized that's not who they should continue glorifying until the end of time?

All things related to the Confederacy should be destroyed and shamed. The Confederacy was an evil enemy "nation" that deserves no honor and was rightfully defeated. Honoring the Confederates is akin to honoring the Nazis who killed many American soldiers. The Confederacy was an enemy to America and deserves no honor or recognition. Destroy all monuments praising or remembering that evil movement.

It is unfortunate that the mountain was so defaced as it was with that monument to traitors and slavers. Since it is the property of the State now and not in private hands it should be removed. There should be some way to do the removal work that might make the area look natural, I would think? The State could then sell off the rebel rubble to stone crushing companies and perhaps the product could be used for roads or in concrete for worthwhile constructs.

When Tucker talks about how the American Elite lack even elementary self awareness this is exactly the sort of thing he is talking about.

We are bullied by dopes.

Who puts up with that?

Sure...they do the same things as the Taliban. But THEY are different......

So just to make sure I'm following the retarded logic you two are spewing, any country that has ever removed any kind of statue, mural or carving is basically the Taliban.

Germans removing Hitler statues after the war? Taliban
Cambodia removing statues of Polpot? Taliban
Eastern European countries removing Stalin and Lenin statues from public squares? Taliban

There is no requirement to keep every statue and monument ever made in place until the end of time. All statues will be eventually replaced with new ones, and when it comes to traitors to the US that fought to enslave human beings, sooner is better than later.

Your comparisons to the Taliban are lazy and offensive to veterans that have actually faced the Taliban and seen their horrors first hand.

No.

It should stand as a monument to the Democrat Party history.

No.

It should stand as a monument to the Democrat Party history.

Using your logic, we should put a copy of the settlement Trump paid to the blacks he discriminated against in the 70's in his Presidential library ( if he builds one ) as part of his historical legacy of racial bigotry and discrimination for Republicans to (dis)honor him with.

Not only is the Confederate cause vile and ugly so is the sculpting which is wholly absent any natural lines. The sculptor must have been a moonshiner who worked at night only.

Stone Mountain Park is the state's number one tourist attraction so closing the park would be poor public policy. However blasting a hole in the spot would be a good reminder of what happened back then and why its continuation into the present is unacceptable.

History should not be destroyed, although an adding a plaqu isn't out of the question, either.

America in some ways feels like it is a place run by the Taliban.
Yup. For the American Taliban that dont know how to destroy parts of your history you dont like, here is a short video of how your intellectual`brethren handle such problems.

They didn't fight to enslave humans. Since you don't have a basic grasp of history, your vote on the issue is null. Slavery was an economic system which the South was moving away from anyway due to the industrial revolution replacing the need for forced labor with automation. The Emancipation Proclamation did not end slavery within the Union and also exempted all border states. The Civil war was over who would control the new country, since if the Union lost there would be no Union at all as it couldn't pay for itself. The Civil War was about economic viability so of course, the Union won given its technological advancements.

When do we get to dynamite Rushmore? That collection of racists, white nationalists, slaveholders, LGBTQ bigots and war mongers need to be erased from our view.

These statures are works of art that teach us about the past. These statures commemorate activities of key members of the Democrat party. It was the philosophy of the Democrat party that drove these men to do what they thought was right. We need to get rid of the root of the evil, which is the Democrat party. As long as the head is alive chopping off fingers does not kill the beast.

Do think Germany would be OK, today, if the Nazi party still had the popular vote in Germany? Would getting rid of all the statues of former Nazi's, cancel out the negative impact of the Nazi party still wielding a lot of power? This is the US in a nutshell, with the Democrat party still inciting anarchy leading to big government overreach like the Nazis had.

What makes the Democrats even worse than the Nazis, is the Democrats party taught the Nazis how to make the Jews legally second class citizens, as the Democrats had done to the blacks; segregation. The next step leading to the Jewish genocide was made easy as people became indifferent due to the needs of following the law. The German people became desensitized to the life of the Jews, similar to way abortion in the USA, where the unborn is now easy to snuff out, without blinking an eye. this is law. Can you see the same legal desensitization lessons?

The Nazi party in Germany still exists, but is small and lacks power, yet, everyone still associates it with the past. There is always fear, less may someday they rise to the level of power of the Democrats in the USA. The Democrats are instigating this removal of the past, to hide the evidence, so they can blame all white people for these atrocities, and not just the white Democrats who did it. Don't the Democrats currently blame white people, in general, for the KKK, but never say the truth that the Democrat party was behind these monsters. One again the evil party, is hiding its true intent using propaganda.

I am not about blaming the present for the past. Many young members of the Democrat party have their hearts in the right place, but were never taught the truth of the Democrat party's shady past. The Democrats control education and media and can hide the truth with revisionist history.

If we got rid of the name Democrat Party, since it is like an abstract statue; Nazi, this would do more to healing then destroying all the physical statues. The latter plays in to the disinformation campaign. Look at the Democrats on social media. They behave like an internet version of the KKK. The Kavanaugh hearings was an old fashion lynch mob. The way the party has targeted Trump is not new, but was the way they targeted Martin Luther King; misinformation campaign.

The fundamental nature of the organization has not changed. In the past, they also used identity politics to target the blacks; separate toilets and restaurants. They have not changed tactics, other than change the color of attack from black to white. They cannot get out of the past, since they consider this their glory days. We need to destroy this abstract statue; name, called the Democrat party until its become the size of the modern Nazi party.

Maybe we need to come up with a new name. The personnel does not have to change, but a clean break from continuity of the horrors of the past, may add new life to the members. New life is better than the old life as blind surrogate to the Nazis.

Did any of the founding fathers try to secede from and attack the United States of America? You're really comparing southern traitors to our founding fathers? Why? I also don't expect Mount Rushmore to stay in tact until the end of time. Future generations might decide to replace it.

I stopped reading a few sentences in when I realized you were going to start comparing Democrats to nazis. Hyperbole doesn't make it likely for us to take you seriously.

I doubt you called the eastern European countries tearing down Stalin and Lenin statues Taliban extremists. You just sympathize with southern traitors and self declared enemies of the US so you reach for hyperbole.

History should not be destroyed, although an adding a plaqu isn't out of the question, either.

So you're saying Germany should've kept up the thousands of swastika and Hitler statues all over Germany until the end of time? They can never, ever be replaced with something else?

That was exactly my point.

Yes, only liberals are allowed to compare people to Nazis. Funny how you dont call out liberals who compare people on the right to Nazis and fascists, but someone on the right does it and you are right there to jump on it.

I dont 'sympathize with southern traitors' thats just you being dishonest. But then again, you are a liberal. It sort of comes with the territory.

I’m not a fan of destroying art. We can’t really compare this to statues because statues can just be moved off public land. This draws a lot of tourists so why not take advantage of that and put something up that explains the context?

I don’t really have a dog in the fight as visiting the place isn’t on my bucket list, but “HULK SMASH” seems like a childish solution.

When people start trying to erase history, it's time to start erasing them. Erasing history doesn't change it, it only puts a political party in charge of it.

I'm sure somebody will take out the mural on some dark rainy night sooner or later.
