Read the linked article, then answer the question

Heavy rains last week forced the river to unprecedented levels, causing earthen portions of the dam to collapse and sending a torrent of water rushing downstream. The concrete section of the dam remained intact, but the swollen river damaged about half the 1,000 homes and cabins above it. The lake quickly emptied.

"We have over $100 million in homes on the lake and none of them are worth what they were when they had water in front of them," said Jim Willey, director of the Lake Delhi Recreation Association. "You have a home with a lake or a home with a mud flat.

If you read the article, you would know that actually, the houses are high and dry...

It said some of the houses weren't.
Approximately half of the 1000.

Whether "taxpayer dollars" are used by the government or the taxpayers for this purpose, they'll still be taxpayer dollars.

The government is just more likely to screw things up.

So no.

If it is in the broader public interest to restore the lake, so that all people have access to it, then yes. But restoring property values should not even be factored into any decision.

One would think living below a dam, that home owners would maybe... just maybe get flood insurance?

But no, no taxpayer money for home property values. Yes, to repairing the dam.

The government should not use tax payer funds to restore property values. If the tax payers own the damn and it is used for flood control or hydroelectric power, then damn itself should be fixed for those purposes .

That is what would restore the property values to the homes that are now high and dry...

It said the dam was originally built for hydroelectricity. But isn't used for that now? Maybe it could be a green job project, but that doesn't mean it would have to be done with federal funds. It also said they received funds in 2008. Was that money just wasted?
I feel for the people. But I don't think it should be put on taxpayers just because someones property values goes down.
