So called ghost guns are ending up in the hands of felons who can not buy regular guns. Hey are ending up in every increasing crime scenes since the people who use them know they can not be traced. Biden is presently trying to have the kits that are used to make the ghost guns named as guns and not parts, nd require them to have serial numbers. Do yo agree with this, or do you want the ghost guns to continue to be "legal"?

Living in California, I can tell you they are still legal. but they have to have a serial number and a manufacturer name, and the builder can only sell it through a licensed gun dealer.

Does that mean everybody obeys the law? Of course not.

Gun parts are not guns. They are parts of guns. What is the point of calling gun parts guns?

Should we call a camshaft an engine? Of course not. Engines have serial numbers, but the cams don't. That would be dumb.

Sometimes I worry about poor Joe Biden. His ideas don't make any sense.

If felons couldn't buy regular guns there wouldn't be much crime, would there?

I'm not sure how I feel about so called "ghost guns" but I do know the real problem is the people who use them in a crime. That little fact is never mentioned by Biden or his left wing progressives who seem to be against everything except criminals. If you get rid of ghost guns the criminals will find another source. We already know that a large portion of the guns used in crimes are illegally obtained. So the answer would seem to be punish the criminal who uses a gun in the commission of a crime. Instead the democrat progressives and Mr. Biden want to blame the gun, blame the republicans and institute policies like no cash bail, releasing criminals who have multiple offenses against them, making many crimes misdemeanors so they are never arrested and never charged. All bad ideas. I can only guess that the democrats think they need the votes of criminals and super liberals who don't like crime prevention in order to win an election. Or perhaps just as possibly to change America in a fundamentally disastrous way.

It is already illegal for a ‘prohibited person’ to possess any gun. A few gun (or car) parts have serial numbers, but the vast majority do not. With no link to the proposed ‘ghost gun’ legislation, it is very difficult to debate it’s content.

BTW, few guns “end up” (are left?) at crime scenes.

We arent seeing an increase in violent crimes due to 'ghost guns' Preventing their sale wont reduce crime. At all.

Currently, the gun control states already have laws against manufacture and sale of 'ghost guns'. Those same states have laws against felons owning weapons and for that matter, criminals committing crime.

None of the gun laws prevent violent crime. You know what does? Mandatory minimum sentencing laws.

Never mind the fact that you will NEVER stop criminals form building illegal weapons.

This is all bluster and much ado about nothing. It is theater used to fabricate more gun laws. It does nothing.

I'm all for prosecuting criminals using guns. Joe Biden just said that crimes using ghost guns will bring federal charges.

I can support that. But as far as banning the home manufacture of plastic guns from parts? I think the toothpaste has left the tube.

Also, watching Joe's speech live as I type...

Joe said, "It's not to DEFUND the police, it's to FUND the police!" LOL.

Democrats really screwed up supporting BLM and the riots. More toothpaste on the floor.

As an aside, Biden's speech was great, passionate and informed! How anyone can actually watch his speeches and say he has dementia is total BS.

Are you kidding? He is reading a teleprompter, reading a speech someone else wrote. His dementia shows up when he has to has to talk unprepared. That is why he never takes questions. If someone doesn't tell him what to say he has no clue.

How could they possibly be eliminated? Making them illegal won't eliminate them, sort of by definition.

How many crimes go unsolved each year because of ghost guns? How many crimes are solved each year because of a gun trace.

It is not that the criminals can not find another source that is the problem, the problem is that without serial numbers it is impossible to find out who is selling guns to criminals.

again, the problem is that without serial numbers it is impossible to back track and find out who sold the criminals guns. You are right it will not stop crime, but we can punish those who sell guns to criminals.

Do you know what happens if you create a car from parts?

You have to get VIN number before you can even drive it, much less sell it.

The "kit" only provides the raw materials to make the parts. The end-user must do machining to the receiver for it to actually function as a gun.

Biden doesn't know very much about guns - - and most people don't. The Court will overturn Biden's plan.

Partially true.

You need a VIN if you want to operate your "made-from-parts" vehicle on Public Roads. However, you do not have a right to operate a vehicle on public roads. You have a privilege (provided you have the proper licensing, paperwork and registration).

Owning a gun is not a privilege. It is a right. There is no reason for an individual to register a gun that he or she makes.

SCOTUS has ruled that a federal gun registry for non-automatic weapons violates the second amendment.

Rights have limits.
Not the second amendment.

The Bill of Rights explicitly states that "the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall NOT be infringed".

Limits are infringements. The founders were very clear on this.

If they had intended for the right to have a gun should be limited, they would have said "shall not be infringed, unless absolutely necessary". Or something like that.

So a prohibited person has a firearm? Guess what the law has been broken. The Biden administration should make arresting
these people a priority. But it seems all they want to do is start banning firearms?

The Gun Control Act (GCA), codified at 18 U.S.C. § 922(g), makes it unlawful for certain categories of persons to ship, transport, receive, or possess firearms or ammunition, to include any person:

  • convicted in any court of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year;

  • who is a fugitive from justice;

  • who is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance (as defined in section 102 of the Controlled Substances Act, codified at 21 U.S.C. § 802);
  • who has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to any mental institution;

  • who is an illegal alien;

  • who has been discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions;
  • who has renounced his or her United States citizenship;

  • who is subject to a court order restraining the person from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner or child of the intimate partner; or
  • who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.
The GCA at 18 U.S.C. § 922 also makes it unlawful for any person under indictment for a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year to ship, transport, or receive firearms or ammunition.

Further, the GCA at 18 U.S.C. § 922(d) makes it unlawful to sell or otherwise dispose of firearms or ammunition to any person who is prohibited from shipping, transporting, receiving, or possessing firearms or ammunition.

Rights have limits.
Please read Heller.

District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008), was a landmark decision of the US Supreme Court ruling that the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution protects an individual's right to keep and bear arms, unconnected with service in a militia, for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home, and that the District of Columbia's handgun ban and requirement that lawfully owned rifles and shotguns be kept "unloaded and disassembled or bound by a trigger lock" violated this guarantee.[1] It also stated that the right to bear arms is not unlimited and that guns and gun ownership would continue to be regulated. It was the first Supreme Court case to decide whether the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms for self-defense or if the right was intended for state militias.
