Using the health records of more than 280,000 older adults in Wales, researchers found those who received the shingles vaccine were 20 per cent less likely to develop dementia over the next seven years than those who did not receive the vaccine.
Yeah a friend got it on his back. He couldn't wear a shirt for weeks. This is promising news. I also got Shingrix a couple of years ago. I had a boss in his 50's who got shingles and was out of the office for a couple of weeks. He said it was the most painful experience he'd ever had.
Well that’s a nice side benefit. I’ve had mine and I hope it works for both reasons. I’ve had Shingles before while going through a very stressful time in my life and I can vouch that it’s no joke.I just got the Shingrix vaccine a couple of months ago. It will be great if it's also protective against dementia.

Dunno. I had it last year and I'm still stupid.I just got the Shingrix vaccine a couple of months ago. It will be great if it's also protective against dementia.

I got that shit in my eye 10 years ago. I still have my eyesight because my insurance actually dropped the cash on $12K of antivirals.I got the Shingrix vaccine a few months ago also. I got a case of the shingles anyway, but it wasn't all that bad. The vaccine must have done me some good.
Same thing happened to former co worker. He was out for a while.I got that shit in my eye 10 years ago. I still have my eyesight because my insurance actually dropped the cash on $12K of antivirals.
Apparently shingles in the eye forms dendrites and tears your cornea to shreds.

I had shingles a few months ago and I don't wish that on anyone. I'm not a wimp but...I don't wish that on my worst enemy.Yeah a friend got it on his back. He couldn't wear a shirt for weeks.
Good for you.I got the Shingrix vaccine a few months ago also. I got a case of the shingles anyway, but it wasn't all that bad. The vaccine must have done me some good.
Do it, asap.Getting that vaccine is on my to do list.
Yes. This may gross you out but not only does the pain persist, but even after daily scrubbing, some of the skin issues remain for many weeks after.Do it, asap.
Our primary care practitioner (family doctor) told me for years to get the two-shot shingles vaccine (Shingrix). I think vaccines are great, but I didn't know anyone who had had shingles, so......I didn't follow his advice. Sure enough, several years ago, I came down with what our PCP diagnosed as shingles. It wasn't pleasant.
Plus, there's something I call long shingles: a percentage of those with the infection don't see relief after the usual duration of 3-5 weeks, because, in these cases, shingles lingers on. And on and on.....could be forever, I suppose, but, fortunately, mine hung on for only 3-4 months.
So......get the shots.

Yes, Shingrex has the same effect- possibly even stronger. This study was really an amazing natural experiment and tough to replicate again, but lots of lower quality data indicate that this will translate quite well to Shingrix- which is a much more effective and durable vaccine.I just got the Shingrix vaccine a couple of months ago. It will be great if it's also protective against dementia.

I got shingles on my shoulder, my doctor warned me... if the blisters start showing up on your face, see me immediately!I got that shit in my eye 10 years ago. I still have my eyesight because my insurance actually dropped the cash on $12K of antivirals.
