Sheriff: Limestone County woman pulls pistol on man trying to attack her on I-65

Permanently removing violent predators from society seems like the better way. What, exactly, did you have in mind?

Why do you think people prefer a system of law and order to vigilante justice?

Exactly, there's a poster in the Constitution Section who claims there would be no drug crime if the militia were active.

You are focused on the wrong thing. Longer sentences may not act as a deterrent, but they do remove the violent predator from society for a longer period of time - thus reducing their total victim count. Recidivism rates are terrible and do not get better by issuing shorter sentences.

But we end up getting a violent class in prisons who are totally alien to civilized society.

When they're finally released, they're totally useless to society.

Then why release them?

Because we have aspirations of being civilized.....we THE BETTER PEOPLE.

Gun control is about treating all people as if they were potentially violent felons. The idea of labeling folks as too dangerous to ever be given an opportunity to become armed and yet releasing them to roam freely among us is not working well.

Just as the feminists teach that all men are first and foremost potential rapists.

We are so ****ed, VICTIM CULTURE was always the dumbest of ideas.

WE USED TO BE BETTER!

Hmm... were we better before we had a BGC mandate to buy a gun?

Kindly attempt to man up and make a statement....I am no spring chicken!

I am not either - being born in 1954. Before the BGC laws were enacted/enforced anyone could bop into a Western Auto or Sears store and buy a pistol, rifle or a shotgun and a box (or two) of ammo for it.

It's a dilemma

The USA incarcerates a greater part of its people than any country on Earth...yet is nowhere closer to a solution.

There are two choices - let them out or keep them in. Unless, of course, we actually used the DP.

Rehabilitation ?

The USA used to lead the world in rehabilitation of convicts.

Every wondered why jails are often called penitentiaries? It's so the convict can be penitent of his/her crimes and come out a better person.

Now murder deserves death or a life sentence...but there's a lot of crimes where people get thrown in jail to rot.

US redicivism rates are the problem:

Yes, our prison system is very good at brutalizing prisoners and making them unemployable.

This is compounded by many states not protecting them more. Released prisoners should get their citizen rights back and be allowed to not disclose their sentence (except violent crime) when trying to get a job.
My old company wouldn't hire anyone with a prison record for instance.
