A LEGAL IMMIGRANT, working for the community, an asset to the community, the kind of immigrant every American wants to come here, BRUTALLY MURDERED by an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT, with a prior criminal record, who by rights should never have even been here.

Guess which one California law, (and by extension, the Illegal-o-crats overall ), provides SPECIAL PROTECTIONS FOR?

Sheriff blames sanctuary law for California officer's death

SAN FRANCISCO (AP)
— A suspected drunken driver accused of killing a California police officer who pulled him over was captured Friday as he tried to flee back to Mexico, where he lived before illegally crossing into the U.S., authorities said.

The sheriff leading the investigation blamed California's sanctuary law for preventing local authorities from reporting Gustavo Perez Arriaga to U.S. immigration officials for two previous drunken driving arrests. If he had been deported, the sheriff said, Cpl. Ronil Singh of the tiny Newman Police Department would still be alive.

"We can't ignore the fact that this could have been preventable," Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson told reporters, asking why the state was "providing sanctuary for criminals (and) gang members. It's a conversation we need to have."

Perez Arriaga crossed the border in Arizona several years ago and had worked a variety of jobs as a laborer, including at several dairies. The 33-year-old Mexico native had gang affiliations and multiple Facebook pages with different names, Christianson said.

Stupid sanctuary city laws would never have started if not for the fact that stupid was popular among leading democrats at the time and every stupid body wanting to gain advantage from supporting the stupid democrats flipped over backwards trying to come up with other stupid ideas to gain favor with the tribal stupidites in power.

How, exactly, did this guy have a valid, state issued, drivers license? From the link it appears that he had used multiple (valid?) IDs. Has anyone checked to see if he was registered to vote, who had employed him, if that ID (those IDs?) would pass E-Verify and if there was a federal detainer issued for him?

Obviously, our interior enforcement of federal immigration law is failing miserably.

You're asking good questions here, and I hope answers will be forthcoming.

Yes, it is. As long as illegals are protected by 'sanctuary cities', there is no enforcement within those areas.

I see little chance of that happening in a sanctuary state. No word on what, if any, action is being taken federally on the others (five people?) arrested in connection with this case. One was said to have been a co-worker meaning that at least two employees of that employer were illegal immigrants - why that does not trigger an ICE/ERO raid should be investigated.

There is little federal enforcement in any area. That is by design since there are about as many federal ICE/ERO agents assigned to 'patrol' the entire US interior as there are police officers in Boston, MA and Baltimore, MD combined. We have about 10X as many federal airport nannies (TSA agents) as we have federal ICE/ERO agents - does that make any sense at all? MAGA indeed.

Really. You're gonna promote that OP. That ****ed up, asshat, font crazy, total partisan, usually fake news OP. And you're cheerleading. Ain't that something.

The coverage of this is all over the place, but my best guess is someone within governance made a huge mistake.

More than just a technicality but sanctuary status was never intended (even with the law as written) to apply to anyone with a criminal background and/or affiliation to criminal groups or gangs. At some point and at some level information exchange did not work and we ended up with someone protected that should not have been. You would think the first need for an ID would have been flagged, something.

I am not so sure we should be blaming the law itself in this case, even though we could be debating the intention of the law in a general sense as applied to other cases.

What we should be looking at is how this guy got so much in terms of interaction with the State / local governments and for so long allowing this officer’s death to happen.

Answers won't be forthcoming. Like the rest of these incidents, this will be page 19 news in a few weeks. He'll be deported 5 feet from the border and return. Sanctuary everything will continue as usual. A new similar incident will replace it.

Meanwhile, a kid will steal his mom's legal guns and kill a few kids, and all guns must be banned.

Hey Grok, did this sheriff think that Melania was the only first lady to visit a war zone since 1969? :lamo

Well, the article is from Yahoo News, not exactly a site that I have ever associated with fake news. Do you have any evidence that this is fake news?

As for "promoting" the OP....there's a reason that I left everything that Grok said in his OP out with the exception of what he quoted from the article. Now, if you consider speaking to what was said in the article as "promoting" then yeah, guess I am. And it SHOULD be promoted as this is evidence of a failed system that is protecting illegal immigrants instead of dealing with them the way that they are supposed to be dealt with. Arrested and deported after any time served if they are proven in a court of law to have broken any laws that require jail/prison time, otherwise just deported.

How in the world do you vomit that remark in a post dealing with the murder of a police officer and then indicate that you think
that is funny?

E-verify is not mandatory in California except for certain cases (Federal contracts, etc.)....

And sanctuary means not informing internal immigration about illegal immigrants breaking our laws....

Please share. What is "fake" in the OP?

There are plenty of threads in which to discuss any aspect of the event or issues. You needn't promote trash.

So long as doing nothing (differently) gets congress critters re-elected at a rate of over 90% then only fools should expect any changes.

California is now a bulletproof (supermajority in both legislatures) Democrat state.... That is why no mandatory E-verify. That is why so many sanctuary cities. That is why many a local municipality gets away from coordinating with ICE.

Since illegal immigrants are counted in the census then their (growing?) presence gives CA extra "bright blue" House seats and EC votes. I'm sure that other federal perks (block grants to the states?) are also based on population totals which are padded with illegal immigrants.

There are hundreds of crimes listed in California's Sanctuary law which can be reported and get someone who is in the country illegally deported. DUI without injury is unfortunately not one of them. Personally, I would have a 0 tolerance towards drunk driving convictions and think California needs to add DUI convictions to its list of deportable offenses. The suspect in this case had 2 prior convictions for DUI according to reports.

It's always possible that the people of California will say, "Enough!" How many unnecessary deaths need there be before they do?

I see your point about the gun-banning. If you're referring to Adam Lanza, though, he killed 20 kids, not "a few."

What is also true is that in California many families have children enrolled in school. More seats filled equals more federal dollars for the school system. Grants for ESL, subsidized meals, etc.
