Shame on Him
John Kerry picked the wrong people to insult.

I missed the joke. You must forgive me, for there just is not a lot of room in my life for even good jokes--and there is absolutely no room for "botched jokes"--when the subject of the joke is my son who was killed in Iraq. I know exactly what came out of Sen. John Kerry's mouth, and in those words there is no interpretation required. His attempt to convince us--and, I believe, to convince himself that that there was really a botched joke buried deep within his insult is in fact a reaffirmation of his ever-present condescending nature. He actually believes that we are stupid enough to agree with him and start laughing simply because he said it was a joke. Mr. Kerry said exactly what he meant and meant exactly what he said. In those words Mr. Kerry did in fact wash completely away the facade of his support of our magnificent troops and revealed for all to see his true colors.

All one had to do is look into the face of Mr. Kerry as the last word came out of his mouth, and it was painfully obvious that he knew that he had just disparaged the entire military. As the firestorm grew, the calls for an apology filled me with unease. It is not up to him to determine if an apology is in order. That decision most certainly rests with the millions of individuals he offended, and then they would decide if they were going to accept one or not.

As Sen. Kerry began his soon-to-be-reversed "I apologize to no one" rebuttal to a call for an apology, I was driving by the memorial built in honor of Kyle, my son, and the other fallen heroes from my town. As I listened, I tried unsuccessfully to make sense of the meteor shower of thoughts that were streaking through my mind. Then came one remembrance that brought all those other thoughts to an instantaneous halt. Last year I had written an editorial and I received a number of written replies. Among those was one postmarked from San Diego addressed simply to "the father of a hero" and my town of Emerson, N.J.
It started off friendly enough then quickly became argumentative and before the first paragraph was completed this individual had written, "I am glad that your son got killed for he probably was an idiot just like you". My first reaction, and really the only reaction I have ever had, was sadness for an individual who is so consumed with anger that he felt it necessary to lash out at me for my beliefs.

That is exactly how I feel about John Kerry. His anger was in full bloom as he tried desperately to control the damage that his words had caused. He knew full well that he could not defend his remarks, so he attacked President Bush. In doing so he reinforced his now fully revealed condescending attitude towards our troops. He talked over them, as he always does, never even beginning to understand that there might be individuals who were truly and deeply offended by his remarks. The explanation for that is quite simple: He firmly and deeply believes that anyone who would be so stupid as to join the military is beneath the high moral perch on which he thinks he sits.

Even in his so-called apology the next day, Mr. Kerry could not bring himself to admit that he had made a mistake. It was not his fault that I might be offended; it is my fault because I "misinterpreted" what he said.

In other words, let's keep beating this horse right up to the election. Beats talking about Iraq.

In other words, this guy doesn't deserve free speech. You won't afford him the same rights that Cindy Sheehan gets? Both of them had children killed in combat didn't they?

Not to often a democratic scandal or controversy is in the news so they need to take advantage. What is this the fifth thread on this same topic? I guess the more threads they post the more it seems democrats are in the news in a negative light.

LOL, John Kerry, the gift that just keeps on giving!:rofl

Yes it does. Or, if he is going to talk about Iraq, he'll say that things are going just fine.

The Great Divider

As President Bush throws himself into the final days of a particularly nasty campaign season, he’s settled into a familiar pattern of ugly behavior. Since he can’t defend the real world created by his policies and his decisions, Mr. Bush is inventing a fantasy world in which to campaign on phony issues against fake enemies.

In Mr. Bush’s world, America is making real progress in Iraq. In the real world, as Michael Gordon reported in yesterday’s Times, the index that generals use to track developments shows an inexorable slide toward chaos. In Mr. Bush’s world, his administration is marching arm in arm with Iraqi officials committed to democracy and to staving off civil war. In the real world, the prime minister of Iraq orders the removal of American checkpoints in Baghdad and abets the sectarian militias that are slicing and dicing their country. . . .

You Republicans are getting really desperate aren't you?
Can't talk about your '04 cash cow Iraq, can't talk about terrorism, can't talk about tax cuts, can't talk about health care, can't talk about stem cell research so every single add you Republicans put out are mindless attack ads.
You wanna talk about Kerry and :beatdeadhorse:? Fine, let's bring out all the skeletons Delay, Foley, Abramoff and all the likes.
Your GOP ship is quickly sinking.

It was an opinion piece... but an average citizen... by a father who lost a child in Iraq...

So, Iriemon and Jfuh, does he not get the same free speech rights that you, me, and Cindy Sheehan gets? Or is it that he's blasting a Democrat instead of Bush the problem?

How dare he speak his opinion... my gosh!!!

Kerry's not getting the negativity that the cons were hoping for.
Drowning rats grasping at anything that floats by.
The public ain't buying their lame crap anymore.

Poll: Kerry didn't help Santorum or Swann.
Democratic senator's blunder about education and Iraq generated lots of heat, little fire.

Who said he couldn't speak?
Who is trying to get him censored?
Who is trying to deny him his right to speak?
Who said he couldn't have an opinion?

Just more made-up con BS to try to distract.

I dont think anyone is telling him to shut up.....and in fact hes absolutely right in that piece...Kerry is an Idiot....theres news for ya.

What in heavens name had Kerry's speech writers thinking he could successfully deliver a joke of any kind? The man has never made me laugh. Though I didn't find his daughters story about giving mouth to mouth to the hamster hilarious.

Though I must admit this topic is getting boring. I'm so sick of hearing about Kerry, and Fox, and Limbaugh and all this crap.

Hey, thanks for the wave.... :2wave: gotta be polite...

Well, since we're using non-sequitors and generalities... How 'bout this?

Let me preface all of this by saying when I use Democrats and Republicans, I don't mean everyone, just some...

Since Democrats have blasted Republicans for being critical of Cindy Sheehan for speaking out against the way she does, saying, "She lost her son in Iraq, she should be able to grieve any way she wants to"...

Then for Democrats to come out and blast and demonize a father(not a politician mind you, not a shill of the Democrat party like Sheehan), who lost a son in Iraq for the way he speaks out against Kerry and his statement...

What's the word or words for that... can anyone help me out here?

I would like to know what they were doing joking about Iraq at all?

I mean, here he is, a U.S Senator, and he's "joking around" about Iraq with a bunch of college students? Did this become acceptable all of a sudden, as long as Bush is the punch line, you can pretty much joke about anything?

Yeah, but they did poo poo the thread, and this man has a right to speak, if you are tired of hearing it, move on to the next one. I mean, there is about 8,000 Foley posts, this isn't even a pimple on the *** of that ridiculous thread, but who's counting, lol.

Hey, we're on the 11th day of the Dems beating the Limbaugh/Fox dead horse - what is good for the goose, my amigo!

I don't know whether Iriemon is a Dem, Rep or Ind; however, please look at post #2, right after NP posts a thread about an opinion piece by a father who lost a child in Iraq...

<<In other words, let's keep beating this horse right up to the election. Beats talking about Iraq.>>

Who is he referring to? Bush? The Republican party? Or, this average guy's opinion piece? Considering Bush & The Republican party wasn't mentioned in post #1, then a reasonable person can assume that he was referring to the father... Then, that begs the question, why bash the father?

Or... am I reaching here? Is Iriemon just expressing frustration with this issue still out there? Then why express that frustration the post immediately after an opinion piece by an average joe?

I don't know the answer to any of those questions, Iriemon hasn't responded yet... perhaps he will before it's time for me to go....

I know it seemed to ME that he was perhaps bashing the father for stating an opinion....

Just a comment on certain Republicans here milking the issue well past its worth, IMO. . Last I checked there were 5 active threads on Kerry in the first page, and he isn't even running for office.

John Kerry is sorry sack of **** and an elitist snob. How many threads and posts are we possibly going to have on the same issue??????

At this point, what is the point. Let me let you in on a little secret. More than likely, baring some miracle, the Republicans are going to lose the House, the majority of the Governors Offices, and the majority of the State Houses, and its about 50/50 on whether you keep the Senate. This is a big issue election, you can talk about Kerry all you want, but I don't think its going to have much of an impact at all come Tuesday.

I mean for crying out loud, go to www.electoral-vote.com and look at the Senate and House Poll numbers, it ain't looking good for you, it seems that the pendulum is swinging back the other way. Hey, it isn't the end of the world, if your young, then maybe in another 40 or 50 years, you will get to see the Republican Party become the majority party again for a little while. :2razz:
