Look, guns aren't going anywhere.
There's three hundred MILLION of them in private hands, thus confiscation is IMPOSSIBLE.
Ammo isn't going anywhere either, because too many people would be able to make their own ANYWAY.
Laws will not be passed to criminalize gun ownership either, because believe it or not, too many liberals ALSO have guns.
And even if, in some Bizarro worst case scenario, any of the above WERE to even partially see the light of day, we're living in the 21st century now, where eleven year old kids living in the FARC jungles are now able to MAKE you a very sophisticated firearm out of scrap metal in less than a day from scratch, we also have the internet and therefore anyone with a basic set of machinist skills can whip you up whatever you want.
Gun craftsmanship isn't brain surgery.
If you can make your own car parts, you can make guns.
And I know that YOU know that there are plenty of people who already DO know how.
The Israelis were making guns from scratch in underground bunkers at the outset of the 1948 war.
Guns are here to stay in America, and you're getting your panties all in a wad for nothing, and you're actually making the issue worse, and inspiring hordes of lunatics in the process, and said lunatics obviously have NO business owning a firearm, because they are lunatics.
Gun ownership is so hardwired into the American culture that if we simply work the problem and calm down the violence culture, it will go back to being the quiet, seldom discussed but well loved part of the American cultural fabric it used to be.
I mean, what I am getting at is, gun culture in this country didn't use to mean gangs, radical religious fanatics, militia boys pretending to operate their own private armies, and wannabe self appointed neighborhood enforcers acting under color of authority.
It used to be that guy down the street with the pencil thin mustache who smoked cigars, drove a Studebaker Wagonnaire and liked hunting, it used to be the shopkeeper who didn't take any sh!t from the punks who thought they could rob his liquor store, it used to be the homeowner who kept one for family protection.
We're probably not going to return completely to those vacuum tube hallowed days but we can tamp all this nonsense down to a dull roar and make it acceptable once again if we work together.
Running around with your hair on fire and screaming about every presidential candidate being a gun grabber and then looking like an idiot when your paranoid fantasy doesn't come true is not helping the situation.
It just isn't.
