I just got an email from norml this morning that really pissed me off.

The, so called, liberal Senator Feinstein is against the decriminalization of marijuana.

I'lll bet all her friends smoke it. I hope she loses her reelection bid.

California: Senator Diane Feinstein Signs Ballot Argument Opposing Marijuana Depenalization Measure
Share This Article

Sacramento, CA: California's senior senator, Democrat Diane Feinstein (San Francisco), has cosigned the ballot argument against Prop. 19, The Regulate, Control & Tax Cannabis Initiative of 2010, which would allow adults 21 years or older to privately possess and cultivate marijuana for personal use. It would also permit local governments the option to authorize the retail sale and commercial cultivation of cannabis to adults. Personal marijuana cultivation or not-for-profit sales of marijuana would not be taxed under the measure.

Senator Feinstein issued a statement this week calling the measure "a jumbled legal nightmare that will make our highways, our workplaces and our communities less safe." Feinstein falsely claims that the measure, if passed, would prohibit sanctions against employees or motorists who are impaired by marijuana, and would cost California billions of dollars in federal funding.

"Senator Feinstein's opposition to this measure is based upon fear, not fact," NORML Deputy Director Paul Armentano said. "The public is well ahead of the politicians when it comes to the issue of enacting common sense marijuana law reforms."

Senator Feinstein has served in Congress since 1992.

According to the most recent statewide poll, conducted on July 11 by Survey USA, 50 percent of Californians support Prop. 19, while 40 percent oppose it.

Not nearly as bad as her attempts to stonewall solar panels because of "environmental" concerns about a few square miles of desert needed for the panels. Feinstein is like the avatar of what I dislike about the Democratic party.

Unfortunately, her Republican opponent is sure to be no better on these issues.

Who cares she has absolutely no power over this issue. I live in California and I'm really pissed about her opinions too but the reality is that she cannot control the outcome of Prop 19.

However I am skeptical that the law will pass. You'd be surprised how many people are fervently against legalizing marijuana. The majority group that votes, seniors, are a group who grew up watching videos that told them smoking pot made you chop up your family with an axe.

People still believe that the movie, "Reefer Madness" is a true story.

Not to worry...you just have to look at the politics game...

1-Her opinion will have no sway over California voters
2-She already has the mindless leftist vote in her pocket. IF the race is as close as some people are predicting this position allows her to represent herself as a moderate and maybe sway some of the more conservative independent voters.

Don't get me wrong, I want the proposition to pass, and if it does you're damn right i will tear up my tomatoes to grow some marijuana but there are serious underlying issues with legalizing marijuana in California.

For one, even if they make it legal in California, its still federally illegal and while Obama has said he will not raid medical marijuana clinics, his administration has not said anything about recreational.

Secondly, it is predicted that legalizing marijuana will make the price drop in California by 80%. How wonderful does buying marijuana in California and selling it to the rest of the country suddenly sound? Begins to sound more like a federal issue doesn't it?

Thirdly, under prop 19 employers can still drug test employees and fire them on the grounds of these drug tests. What are the employees to do? Sue them? It will just go to federal courts and then its obvious they will lose.

There will be a scare campaign that passing Prop 19 will cost California jobs and kill kittens, cute cuddly kittens, people!

I don't think she is up for reelection, sorry.

yep, she's a twit

And turn them into prowling, scratchy, marijuana addicts.:scared:

Feinstein was always a pretty conservative dem... I doubt she gives a damn one way or the other.. the wind is blowing in her direction.... from the direction she gets most of her 'campaign contributions'.

and prop 19 is not going to accomplish much more than symbolism anyway. all it would really do is eliminate Ca restrictions, not the federal ones. and when it drops to 50 or so an ounce? we will become the Bogata of pot... people from everywhere will flood into california to buy and take home and sell. the feds aint goin for that.

dunno why we make such a deal of it anyway... a quarter is a citation and confiscation.... and cops here in L.A. rarely even do that.

geo.

I think a politician going on record supporting drug tolerance would probably be political suicide if their opponents decide to pick it up and run with it.

Less marijuana regulation and decriminalization also means a loss of government jobs. Keeping it illegal has become a socialist cottage industry. Prisons, enforcement, confiscation, lawyers, clerical workers, real estate. The list goes on and on and on. The"good guys" makes as much money off of it as the "bad guys" do when you add it all up. Imagine how easy it would be to put the bad guys out of business if they REALLY wanted to. Just allow personal possession to less than a pound, 15 plants. There goes the black market marijuana money source. With one stroke of the pen. Done. Now cops can move on to more important criminal matters and we now have room in the penetentaries to harbor the violent offenders who go in and out of prison like a revolving door.

Tax it. New schools and highways and medical research.

Naw....... That's too easy.

So, she has the same position on legalizing marijuana that Obama claims to have. Tar and feathers!

Seriously people. 99% of politicians claim to be against legalizing marijuana. Some of them are probably lying to not make it a campaign issue (coughobamacough), but most of them are telling the truth.

Obama has claimed that legalizing marjiuana and taxing it is not a good way to remove deficits. He has never made an obvious for or against statement on recreational marjiuana.

This is an issue that Obama should have an interest in. The prisons are packed with blacks convicted of breaking marijuana laws.

Amazing that this Senator is disliked entirely based on her stance on Pot. Don't see much of a debate with everyone nodding in agreement.

Gun Control: She wants to ban assault rifles so that shootings like in Connecticut do not happen again. The shooter brought three pistols and an assault rifle if memory serves me right. So, if assault rifles were banned and this guy had shot school children with pistols he would be more law abiding? A pistol actually makes a better short range weapon and is better in tight spaces like hallways. The number of deceased may actually be higher as he had some nice semi-auto pistols with him. Israel knows this, they kill civilians in urban situations all the time, they designed the Uzi for this task.

Privacy Protections: Senator Weyden from Oregon had a run-in with Feinstein because he believed that American should have the privacy guaranteed to them by the many prior laws and constitution, etc... William Binney (whistleblower) just stepped forward to say that the NSA is violating all of these rights by taking 30 Trillion domestic communications. The bill to continue to spy on Americans was largely approved due to Feinstein's efforts. It is outright spying and she is out of touch good sense.

U.S. Support of Israel: Everyone has to be careful when bringing up this real and rational argument. Being anti-sematic means you do not like Jewish people and that is not my intent. To dis-like the sovereignty of Israel is not anti-sematic and makes good sense. U.S. support of Israel military spending and equipment is in violation of International Law (U.N.) and makes the U.S. complicit of war crimes. U.S. financial support of Israel is recessionary, needless and stupid. Senator Feinstein has her lips around this foreign sovereignties butt and ruining what it means for the U.S. to be a free and independent republic. Defending Israel is not in the best interest of the United States, it is only in the interest of Israel. For what Israel has done to Palestine, Lebanon, Egypt and other of it's neighbors I look forward to the day their flag falls and hope Feinstein will be there.

A lot of liberals have disappointed on this. We know for a fact that Obama smoked weed when he was young, and yet his administration raided marijuana stores that were following state laws in California. I'm interested to see how the feds handle Colorado and Washington. They claim they won't crackdown on people in states where marijuana has been decriminalized, but that's basically what they did with medical marijuana in California. They scared Jersey for a long time out of implementing their program and Arizona continued to issue cards but had no state dispensaries like they planned until maybe recently. It's quite clear, in my opinion, this is about filling up prisons so the private companies in the US that build and run many of the new prisons will have lots of customers.
