Defying a veto threat, the Democratic-controlled Senate narrowly signaled support Tuesday for the withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from
Iraq by next March.

Senate signals support for Iraq timeline - Yahoo! News

Personally I don't agree with the way this is done but I do agree a time line needs to be set to force the Iraqi's to step up.

Note to all terrorists: Just lie low and wait. The Americans are setting an exit date. We can start bombing things again after they leave.

We have two choices.

  1. Set a deadline forcing Iraq to meet goals of securing their own country
  2. Stay in Iraq for another decade or two hoping Iraqi's get tired of being spoon fed.

The terrorists can hide and lay low if we are in Iraq or not. Iraq is not their target, America is. If Iraq can secure itself and America leaves, Iraq will be safe and America will still be a target.

In the end America will be as much of a target as it was on 9/10/01
