The United States Senate on Thursday passed a bill to approve the controversial Keystone XL pipeline. The measure now faces presidential veto.Final approval for the pipeline, which would transport oil from Canada's tar sands to the U.S. Gulf coast energy hub, rests with President Barack Obama because it crosses an international border. Obama threatened to veto the bill if the Senate approved it earlier this month.
Obama won't veto this because he's a wimp.
He's already said he will veto. This is short-lived. Sorry NP.

Repubs win either way. If BHO signs it he angers his environmentalist base and hands the Repubs a nice win. If he vetoes it he hands the Repubs a powerful issue for 2016.
Why would the veto be a win for republicans? Obama is not on the ballot in 2016.

It's way too early for any non-catastrophic issue to have much effect on the 2016 election.
Because they can force the Dem candidate to either stick with BHO's decision and get hammered as anti-growth and anti-jobs, or abandon BHO's decision and turn off the environmental base. It's a great wedge issue for the Repubs. I would not be surprised if Repubs are hoping for a veto.
Its still a defeat for BO Peep as he thought it would be blocked. Thought he could brow beat some Demos. Finally there were 9 of them that stood up for the people rather than carry BO's water.
And if the lawsuits againist keystone kill the pipeline, the issue is moot.

He is never going to sign it. And...I don't think the pipeline will be the powerful issue that you want it to be. Certainly not the kind that is going to sway a lot of voters.
Are you kidding me?And if the lawsuits againist keystone kill the pipeline, the issue is moot.

Heya JH. :2wave: Well and that if he does Veto.....it will validate he went against what the People Wanted and were standing for. Also lets not forget.....the oil is still going to flow. It will just be moved in a more dangerous way. Thru trains and trucks, wherein the Demos want to get all those regulations going to scam money. While professing that they care so much about the environment.
I disagree. I think it will be powerful because it is simple and visible. As I posted earlier, I suspect Repubs are hoping for a veto.
If that's their wish, they will get it. There is no doubt that it will be vetoed. How this is going to affect the 2016 election requires a pretty big stretch. Americans by and large are not passionate over the issue right now. What makes you think they are going to suddenly become passionate over it a year from now?
No lawsuit will kill it. That is not a concern.
No he didn't. Where did you get that? Obama knew that if was going to pass which is why he stated clearly that he would veto it. How is that a defeat for President Obama? You act as if a bill has never made it to the President's desk that was vetoed.
