Senate panel passes bill seeking to curb illegal gun purchases

Absolutely, no argument here. For people who willingly buy for criminals and other prohibited persons though, it should be so tough that love, money, and any other stupid reasons for aiding them should be instantly not worth it.

10 years and a quarter million dollar fine is pretty damn strict. You can make it 30 years and a 50 million dollar fine, people are still going to do it.

I'll go with law enforcement's opinion that under current law, the charge is often viewed as a paperwork violation, which hurts their ability to clamp down on such activity.

A paperwork violation worth 10 years and a quarter million dollar fine. That's ten years in federal prison. There's no parole there, ten years straight.

actually its normally the jury's

OK!

but there are plenty of laws against that

its not just the lying on the form

its also giving a weapon to someone you know or HAVE REASON TO BELIEVE is a felon or other prohibited person. so the claim by restrictionists that all they have is lying on a form is BS. if someone asks you to buy a gun for them that alone is sufficient to put you on notice they cannot

Thanks for your opinion. I'll go with what law enforcement says: under current law, the charge is often viewed as a paperwork violation, which hurts their ability to clamp down on such activity.

True, though it might discourage someone on the fence, like the girl who purchased for Harris and Klebold. If it doesn't discourage at least it will get some of them off the streets for a very long time.
