Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele's new campaign signs seem to identify him as a Democrat.
The bright blue placards and bumper stickers made their debut yesterday in Baltimore during an event announcing a new coalition of Democrats supporting the lieutenant governor's U.S. Senate bid.
No elected Democrats showed up for yesterday's event, and the crowd was composed largely of participants in the I Can't We Can substance-abuse-recovery program in Park Heights.

Steele, is the Republican nominee for Senate and a former chairman of the state Republican Party.

Steele's website does not identify himself as a Republican.

President Bush swooped into Southern Maryland to mark Labor Day. Maryland's top two Republicans -- Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich and Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele -- did not appear with the president in the St. Mary's County town, Piney Point.

Six weeks before the November vote, Democratic Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin leads Steele, 51 - 40.

Sad

Sleep with dogs ya get fleas.

This seems kind of par for the course for the Steele campaign… I mean this is a gentleman that three nights ago said in a public debate to Rep. Ben Cardin (D) to “shut up and listen”. This is also a candidate that ran ads about how he loves puppies shying away from… well quite frankly everything that matters in an election, which makes Captain America’s comment pretty funny.

But on the macro perspective the Republicans are seeing fall out with Schwarzenegger (yeah I had to google him to get the correct spelling of his name) and in the not too distant past with Rick Santorum; when Bush traveled to the Harley Davidson plant in central PA, Rick Santorum was 150 miles away from Bush. The President and the party are not very popular right now, can you blame all these guys for doing things like this? However, I am not condoning this type of thing, and you will never see me type that

BWG…You are right, it is sad that this type of thing goes on in modern politics. It’s juvenile and bush-league…period. The only thing this type of tactic does is degrade the US political system whose workers and figureheads (on both sides of the aisle) are very serious people who complete very serious work. However, with that said, substance over style GENERALLY wins in the end, and I think the polling numbers that you quoted in your comment represent that quite well.
