Great opening to foster reasoned debate. I bet you are a real hoot in person.
thanks for exposing the hypocrisy so vividly. if one side views the posts of the other to be a "joke", that is fine ... at least until the table is turned

for the record, i cannot recall seeing anything posted by you which would be properly classified "reasoned debate". partisan, unfounded garbage, yes. reasoned debate ... still waiting on that. and you probably would not enjoy my company in person as i do not suffer fools gladly
We should do what we can to help the NA tribes that are mired in abject poverty through development, and schools to help them succeed in this country. Money handouts is NOT the answer. Teach a man to fish.
it is clear you haven't an iota of understanding about this topic. it is not about handouts. it IS about paying back what was taken. many billions. and this huge amount represents only what was not addressed because of the statute of limitations. imagine how much was actually stolen from the Indians
Yeah, tell that to someone who doesn't know the deal pal...."Pigford v. Glickman: 86,000 claims from 39,697 total farmers?"

Zombie » Pigford v. Glickman: 86,000 claims from 39,697 total farmers?

j-mac
you clearly don't know the deal
you want us to believe that any party to a suit is limited to a single claim
come back when you actually have a point to argue
your lame ass, unfounded, fact deprived assertions are getting old

I see, so now I am a "fool" because I don't agree with your nanny state outlooks...nice.

Yes, in a James Cone kind of way eh? how sad.

many billions. and this huge amount represents only what was not addressed because of the statute of limitations. imagine how much was actually stolen from the Indians

Are you NA? or AA? or just self loathing, and born of white guilt?

you clearly don't know the deal

Such strong facts...let's have em....

your lame ass, unfounded, fact deprived assertions are getting old

Yet you time after time come back for more, while not presenting one single fact yourself, yet you are strong with the name calling....What's that say about you?

So when it suits you, the rule of law is thrown out because you think that a group of people were screwed by the forming of this country hundreds of years ago?

You wanna tell everybody how the rule of law was violated here by Congress appropriating this money?

So when it suits you, the rule of law is thrown out because you think that a group of people were screwed by the forming of this country hundreds of years ago? And in your mind then how long should the descendants of these peoples be able to lay claim to their ancestors hardships? 3rd generation? 4th, 5th? How long do they get to whine, and cry about how hard they have it while living in a country where we make a rock quarry owner with too much stone, a millionaire for placing a stone in a box, and marketing it as adopting a pet rock? Really? How long do we as a nation allow this collective guilt of existence rule our actions and afford large settlements to groups of people that are suing in numbers 3 times that of documented black farmers at the time? Hell, I have a garden, and I am descended from Irish immigrants during the potato famine. Can I get a piece of this blatant money grab?

What a joke.

j-mac
lets put you in a similar situation....you win a lawsuit, whoever it was you sued and won a judgement against, plays games for years and years, you continually pursue your judgement in the legal system, and time and time again, the courts agree with you, and order payment, but again, the people/organization you sued and won a judgement against keep delaying and filing appeals, which they continually lose......one day, you die....is it the right now of the people you sued to claim that 'well, he is dead now, and his estate has no claim to the judgement, therefore, we will not pay it as his descendents were not part of the original lawsuit'?

As awful as we treated the Blacks and Native Americans over the history of this country I think I can approve of this bill.

Michelle Bachmann: "Whether or not this is an impeachable offense is one that the Congress would have to make a determination on."

That's impeachment talk, ain't it?

US Faces 'Disaster' from Financial Reform Bill, Bachmann Warns

If you guys keep electing people like that, I don't think it will good for you long-term at all. This is, after all, one of the Tea Party darlings who also goes on national television and lies about the cost of a presidential trip.

I like her. She wasn't lying, she was wrong. There's a difference.

Blacks and indians are treatd better than they could ever expect in any other country.

Indian casinos don't pay taxes. That adds up to billions of dollars, every year, that they get to put into their pockets.

Where else, but this great nation could they do that?

The bottom line, is that the government doesn't have this kind of money, just laying around.

Yeah, except maybe their own countries when they were wrongfully taken from them, and had them taken from them, respectively.

And which countries were those?

American Indians gained land through conquest. White Europeans played that game far better.

Had the Indian tribes not been warring with each other they might have organized themselves into a stronger force, invented wheels and ships, and conquered the Europeans instead..

But, alas, it was not to be.

What are you serious? The ancestors of African Americans were from various countries before they were enslaved. The ancestors of Native Americans owned the entirety of the United States before it was stolen from them. Any other questions?

You said "Yeah, except maybe their own countries when they were wrongfully taken from them, and had them taken from them, respectively".

Okay, now please name the countries.

If you can't then you are only responding with your feelings, not facts.

Conquest isn't a game, it's a war crime.

Actually war is generally how countries are conquered, and war itself is not a crime if certain criteria are met.

If you look at a map of Europe from 100 years ago you'll probably see quite a few changes in the borders These were largely the result of war.

With the one possible exception of the county that dares not be named, these border changes are generally accepted as a result of a truce..

Conquest isn't a game, it's a war crime.

That's another really idiotic claim. its naive silly and ignorant of history. And the point is, the Indians are no different than the europeans other than the europeans were militarily far superior.

its like the Boers vs the Zulus. Shaka was a power hungry conquistador. He displaced one quarter of the sub-saharan native AFrican population in the early to mid 1800s. HOwever, his people came into conflict with the Boers. They were better armed and better supplied militarily. to say it was wrong for the Boers to displace the zulus (and later with British help really ring their bells at ROurke's Drift and other battles several decades later) is idiotic. both groups expanded by conquest

This is stupid. How long before we let the bast be the past. How many hundreds of years will America foolishly vomit money at minority groups for the sins of a few individuals? Not all white people owned slaves. Not all Indian tribes were screwed (Manhattan was purchased from Indians, not stolen). No one should receive anything because their ancestors suffered. Should numerous European nations give me money because my ancestors suffered over there and came to America? Should I receive something because of my Native American heritage? All this does is further the entitlement mindset and creates more racial tension in our country.

I really don't care what kind of position it is. Nor do I care how the legal system operates. It is what it is and I make no apologies for it not will I try to justify it. Do with it what you will.

I'll write your position off as entirely irrational.

And the entire world originally belonged to people from Mesopotamia, so I guess every other country just stole land from them, right?

c'mon digsbe, quit exhibiting your ignorance of this issue
read some of the background and you will find the bases for the court awards of significant monetary compensation are not based on slave owning
America's agents, its federal employees, failed to process loans for black farmers in the same manner that farm loans were processed for whites
other federal employees failed to account for the earnings resulting from mineral rights on Indian lands. yet others sold Indian land which was not the government's to sell
for those failures by our national government the court has (repeatedly) found in favor of the Indians and black farmers
only now does it appear congress is going to appropriate the monies to finally provide the compensation which has long been due to the people who suffered these injustices at our government's hands

They're worse than ever because white people don't like the fact that brown people have positions of power. Period. I'm sick of white people whining all the time. You are not worse off because of brown people. You're worse off because rich white people on Wall Street stole your retirmement and devalued your home with unethical investment tools, got a bailout from both parties, and gave themselves Billions in bonuses.

They want you to be angry at brown people because it keeps the poor and middle class at war with themselves while they get richer and richer and richer off of their unscrupulous tactics.

If working people of all races would stop being whiny little bitches about race and fighting with one another, maybe we could get back to an economy that values WORK instead of the ability to craft schemes that make them richer by shuffling **** around.

You worry about this bill, but you don't worry about the fact that a "farmer" from Tennessee runs for office on "smaller government" but has collected $20 million in government farm subsidies over the past decade? Imagine how many others like him are making a killing off your tax dollars. But that doesn't bother us because their white? Is that the point?

The typical liberal response.......wait for it......RACISM.

So why isnt the blacks screaming for the Arabs and Spanish to pay them seeing they owned the majority ships that bought them here? Or how about the black tribe leaders whom sold them into slavery because the last time I checked, during slavery Africa was still a all black land mass so they were treated like **** by their own countries.

As for the Indains, which I am 1/4, they lost the war. Should we start giving back the land we won in every war? They are lucky they were not killed to the last person like African tribes would have done. Should TX, NM, CA and AZ all go back to Mexico?
