Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown is considering a run for president in 2020, he told Cleveland.com in an interview on Monday, adding his name to a long list of potential challengers to President Donald Trump.

Brown, who won reelection to a third term last week, told Cleveland.com that he has received an "overwhelming" number of requests to run for president. In a separate interview with the Columbus Dispatch, Brown said he's heard a “sort of a crescendo” of interest stemming from his wife Connie Schultz's Facebook page, in addition to a number of calls and emails.

I have a lot of respect for Brown. I'd vote for him just to get rid of Trump, if there's any country left in 2 more years.

I'd place my bets on the porn lawyer. For sure.

Sorry, while I agree with him on some issues and disagree on others, he is apparently a "commons sense gun control" advocate. https://votesmart.org/candidate/political-courage-test/27018/sherrod-brown/#.W-ndzfZFyUk

From everything I have seen over the years, such "advocates" push for more restrictions on gun rights in violation of the Second Amendment justified as "common sense" but actually based on "never again" ideology. The only way to insure "never again" is to completely disarm everyone who poses a potential thread. This usually translates as EVERYONE except government agents.

I will never vote for a "common sense" gun control proponent from any political party.

Then we can only expect more of the same. There is a reason every other developed country has nowhere near our gun crime rates.

Well, since I don't depend on either my government or others for my own self-defense...I can live with that.

You won’t but millions sickened by our national carnage will. Don’t bother arguing that gun laws won’t help. The country will vote for them.

Brown is popular in Ohio. He won his race by 6 points while a republican, DeWine won the governorship with a 5 point margin. While Republicans voted Republican and Democrats, Democratic, Brown won via the independent vote as did DeWine. Winning over independents isn't something Hillary Clinton was able to do. Only Democrats liked her, Brown has a wider appeal it seems. At least in Ohio.

There's a lot I disagree with Brown on his political views. But against Trump, I'd vote for him. That is something I didn't do with Hillary although I also disliked Trump. I'd move my vote from third party to Brown if he faced Trump in 2020.

Well, I don't own any guns as of yet. Haven't personally owned any my entire life.

However, if laws are passed to deny me the right to keep and bear arms for my own self-defense and the defense of others against criminals, invaders, and my own government?

Well let's just say I won't agree with such restrictions and leave it at that. :coffeepap:

Brown is a decent guy who likely would win over Trump. However, the R governor would then appoint his successor. I have to wonder if this is considered a lot before a run? Would explain why some of us say "why wont so and so run?" Special elections are dicey at best.

Here's the problem, the same problem that reasonable Republicans had in 2016, he'll have to make it through the primary races without going too far to the left if he wants independent and moderate Republicans to vote for him in the General Election.

I don't see that happening for the Democrats. I see them moving further and further to the left. If that trend continues, then any potential moderate will not be able to make it through the primary elections to make it to the final ticket.

With Harris, Booker, Warren, Sanders and other far left Progressive/Socialist candidates, and nutblades like Avenatti and certain members of the US House that will probably run, the party will be pushed so far to left to the point that any reasonable person will not make it out of the primary gauntlet.

We'll end up with the left's version of the polar opposite of Trump. The very thought is more than just concerning for me.

In the primaries... Brown will be eaten alive.

I live in Ohio and I havent heard anybody talk of Brown for president.

There are many on the left considering a run. So what? The progressive left won't be happy with him.

This isn't the proper forum for debating gun control, but I'm for repeal of the outmoded 2nd A., which is a different topic. We already have more guns than people. Enough.

I agree the primaries are going to be brutal. I saw Hickenlooper who is quite moderate is also considering a run. He will get eaten alive as well. I really think if Avenatti runs he will be hard to beat. He said he wants to take on Trump and he has a lot of supporters. Remember only a small percentage votes in primaries and with an expected dozen or more democrats running, he is more than likely to win.

Avenatti will not be able to secure enough superdelegates to back him

Would you vote for him if he ran?

No. Hes way too liberal for my tastes, plus he is sort of a back bencher. The only time you hear about the guy is when he is up for reelection. He wins and its like hes not even there for the next six years.

No, thank you! Someone young and exciting, please. When will the Democrats learn?

Big talk from the safety of your home in middle America. Don’t forget all of the “government employees” who have sacrificed and continue to to keep your town, your state, and your country safe.

PM from Captain Adverse:

I always find it amusing when people assume they know about someone from an online forum.

Yet you have absolutely no idea who I am aside from the few post's you may have read during your time as a member of this Forum.

You don't know what I have done professionally or privately, where I have been, what I have gone through, hell nothing that gives you the capacity to judge my actual capabilities in any type of situation...and you never will because this is an online forum and it is none of your business.

However it does make your response silly bluster on your own part, based on complete ignorance. It speaks more about your character than anything else.

In future, if you don't see a response simply look at my Forum tagline for the reason.

Cheers! :)

1. There is no need to know what you have done professionally or privately, or your “capabilities” for that matter. Even Superman and Rambo needed an assist from time to time. No man is an island.
2. Attempting to get the last word by sending a PM is weak sauce (the reason I’m posting it).

No, thank you! Someone young and exciting, please. When will the Democrats learn?

I think they did learn with Obama, but if there's no one that is young and exciting that can win and lead a coalition then that's fine, we don't need young and exciting.

That being said, I think SB is exciting in a way. He's old school and classic, like an old FDR Democrat. I would love to see something like that come along. Democrats are for power from the people, and if he could help rebuild our strength with old school workers then that would be amazing. I would also be really excited to have a union man that has his feet on the ground running a huge wpa like infrastructure revitalizing project than someone like Beto. Don't get me wrong, I like Beto, but I'll like him more when he gets a little more experience, I don't know if he could helm a trillion dollar project like that yet.

Take a look at the map. take everything Hillary won and switch Ohio and Pennsylvania, thats a victory. Who else has those two states in the bag off the bat? no one. And then put the other midwest states in his column and add Florida since thats a pretty good shot and you are 330 or something.

I would have Beto in the VP spot, I know that people wont be happy with an older white guy and a young white guy, but they could get Texas and not give up anything for it (unless Beto was gonna run for senate). Thats something like 370 electoral college votes. Or put Kamela as VP, I would say top but having SB as VP doesn't guarantee the midwest, and I think she would be really good at that spot cause she could focus on areas more and then be next in line for president. Actually I'm changing, Kamela at VP, but I'd be happy with either.
