What stood out to you in the 50's and early 60's? Was there anything significantly better or worse? Any great memories you want to share?

I loved the music. The fast and loud muscle cars were great. Eisenhower was an honest leader. JFK gave us hope for humanity. Even LBJ pushed civil rights. There were lots of jobs and all you had to do was actually work. Air pollution, acid rain, global warming were just rumors. Then, reasonably suddenly, Corporations got control of our gov't. Unions, and I'm not saying the Unions weren't crooked, lost their leverage. Energy Corporations had to run the Nation to prevent a moral committment to renewable energy and their profit trains being disabled and they were successful. In the early 70s we, the USA, defaulted on the Bretton Woods agreement and negotiated a scumbag deal with the Saudis on Petrodollars and we've operated with a faith based currency ever since. If you let politicians print all the money they want, they will. Now you know where we are at.

It sounds like the way kids are till they must make their own way in the world. Probably that's pretty close to true.

The society had very little experience in the reality of international security, domestic justice and the insufficiency of good intentions.
