I am sure that I am not the only one that sees multiple threads on the same topic, either within a forum or across forums. A recent case in point:

FEC finds Frist violated law by failing to disclose $1.4 million personal loan
danarhea Today 07:15 PM

FEC fines Frist
hipsterdufus Today 02:40 PM
by hipsterdufus 0 9 US Political Scandal Du Jour

I simply did a search on "Frist" and these two topics were brought up. They are the same or similar information posted on the same day.

I have only started one thread, but any "breaking news" that I find concerning the original thread I take straight to where my topic now resides. There are so many of the duplicate or similar posts being initiated that I believe it distracts from the purpose of discussion or debate. I have seen a number of posts that complain that a post has already been made in full in another forum.

My suggestion is that DP request a search of topics before beginning a new one. Failing that, I would fully support mods consolidating duplicate threads to keep the discussion in one place.

My 2 cents.

Most of the time a mod will merge them.
Sometime people will post seconds apart.
but what you said is a good idea for people to look before they post
