If you look at some of my earlier posts you will see that in 2007 China started building the cleanest coal power plants in the world. They also started building by far the most wind and solar capacity of any country. Even though their economy is smaller than ours they spent more than twice as much on renewable electricity generation in 2023 as the US did. Their plan is to depend primarily on wind and solar. New coal plants as well as existing refitted ones are being designed to operate as what they call flex plants which serve peak demand periods. His work as described here is primarily based on correlations. Now people will complain that correlation is not causation which is true. However, causation REQUIRES correlation. Soon’s solar variability didn’t make the cut. He also looked at the urban heat island issue.
