A recent Field Poll shows Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA) holding a solid lead over his gubernatorial rival Phil Angelides(D), 45-37% with the incumbent's job approval rating higher than his disapproval mark 49-40%...

You forgot to add the last sentence.

"The Field Poll interviewed 992 registered voters from July 10-23, with a margin of error of +/- 3.8%."

Most incumbants do win thier 2nd term. Look at congress 99% incumbancy. That's how the political landscape is today.

Arnold is a joke, much as most politicians are, we really need successful business persons to apply, but sadly they have better things to do.

In short, who cares!

But, successful business leaders have applied.

Yes, in some cases they have, yet stupid Americans will continue to choose bad actors, Reagan of course being the exemption, but yes, it's a national "American Idol" contest!

It's still a highschool popularity contest for most americans.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is a very pro-business governor. He's underrated; I think it's sad that Democrats and Republicans alike seem to hate him.

I think it is sad he was elected at all, but please, show me how he is "pro-business", I would be interested in that conclusion?

Dems hate him because he makes the dems in CA look like the Reps in the rest of the country.
Reps hate him because he's not the same as Bush. For one, he's pro-environment (even though he's got those hummers) - next he supports stem cell research. In essence? Schwarzenegger is pro-science - the anti-bush.
Finally, he doesn't give in to GOP nor Dems, he's kinda his own little show in a way.

He is what he is told to be, just as the Kennedy's he is married to, it's disgusting!

I think if more conservatives and liberals were joined through marriagethere'd be less of this partisanship. Hell partisan may not even exist anymore.

Not for Governorships.

And at a time when incumbency rates for members of Congress top 95%, governors have borne the brunt of the wrath. In 2002, half of the statehouses changed hands. "Governors are in a very difficult spot," says American University political scientist James A. Thurber. "The buck stops with them."

I think Arnold will win, but the Cook Election Preview ranks 12 of the 36 governor races as "highly vulnerable." That's bigtime.

This race won't even be close. The democrats fielded two weak candidates in the primary because no strong democract wanted to take on Arnold. Then, in the primary the democrats don't pick the one that actually could have given Arnold a little bit of a run for his money. I really don't want to vote for Arnold but I can't stomach Angelides. I think this year on the Governor slot I simply won't vote.

The only reason that Davis won reelection was because the Republicans went for the ultra far right candidate ( I can't even remember his name) over Riordan in their primary. David was easily beatable and Riordan would have won in a landslide. Once again.....shows how the primary elections can screw up the general election. I don't know what the solution is but many many times the best candidate is not selected in the primary.
