RealClearPolitics - Video - School Kids Chant: "I Am An Obama Scholar"

Cult of personality - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A cult of personality arises when an individual uses mass media to create an idealized and heroic public image, often through unquestioning flattery and praise.[1] Cults of personality are often found in dictatorships. The sociologist Max Weber developed a tripartite classification of authority; the cult of personality holds parallels with what Weber defined as 'charismatic authority'.
A cult of personality is similar to hero worship, except that it is propagated by mass media. However, the term may be applied by analogy to refer to adulation of religious or non-political leaders.

The political indoctrination is sickening. But, parents think it's cute and since many are not involved in nor really care about what goes on their schools, it will continue and most likely spread. Another reason there needs to be alternatives to the public school system, such as charter schools and a voucher system.

Paranoia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paranoia is a thought process heavily influenced by anxiety or fear, often to the point of irrationality and delusion. Paranoid thinking typically includes persecutory beliefs concerning a perceived threat towards oneself. Historically, this characterization was used to describe any delusional state.

Denial - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Denial is a defense mechanism postulated by Sigmund Freud, in which a person is faced with a fact that is too uncomfortable to accept and rejects it instead, insisting that it is not true despite what may be overwhelming evidence. [1] The subject may use:

* simple denial - deny the reality of the unpleasant fact altogether
* minimisation - admit the fact but deny its seriousness (a combination of denial and rationalisation), or
* projection - admit both the fact and seriousness but deny responsibility.

It would have been nice to let the guy get at least through the first page of his thread before you started trolling it.

Thinking his cult of personality claim is paranoid is trolling now?

No, throwing up the link to a wiki about paranoia without giving so much as a shred of commentary...not much different than "picture trolling". And what you left unsaid was a lot more insulting than what wiki had to say.

But you knew that.

I like how redress handled it. Leaving "it" unsaid gave the correct message since this whole thread is idiotic and should really be in the conspiracy theories section.

What's the point of this thread?

You know what's really cool? You're always free to not post in a thread that you don't find to have merit.

Edited:

I agree and often I leave such threads alone. However, in this case, I believe it is better to say something because this not only has no merit, but it has negative merit. It is taking something innocent and expanding it to paranoia. Such is not healthy, useful, or good. Given that it is solely negative, its best to point that out (and harshly) because this sort of misrepresentation is misleading and does nothing to promote active political discussion. In fact, I would say this sort of thread is the opposite of what this forum seems to be about and as such, there is merit in calling it.

What, you mean just exactly like the OP? Could it be I was subtly making fun of the original post here?

But you knew that.(see what I did there?)

To draw obstuse people into asking stupid questions reflective of the depth of their analytical skills.

All he did was post a video, and a quote from wikipedia. With no reasoning as to why he made the thread.

Though, I'm assuming he his trying to make Obama into some Hitler like villain, by posting some video of people shouting his name, and posting a definition from wikipedia.
I was just asking for clarification, and hoping for an answer that wasn't so idiotic.

Yes, I see what you did there. You kept trolling.

Actually, since I have added more to the actual discussion than you, I think you might want to re-examine things.

OMFG Obama is Stalin with a shaving kit and a suntan!!1!!!!11!1!1

is he really setting up a cult of personality when a) he is not in the video at all; and b) i sincerely doubt he calls up random teachers and tells them to have school kids chant his name.

What analytical skill were being displayed in the least in the OP?

There's nothing analytical here to discuss. At all.

It's merely more "Obama is a black Nazi trying to burn down America by mind-melding with our children and making us all have gay sex and abort the babies as he takes our guns and turn us all into brownshirted Socialists."

Is there a policy being discussed or criticized here? Nope.

What are we to take away from this?

That if young black kids are devoting themselves to academics by meeting the president's challenge, it's a "cult of personality"?

What is the people who name EVERYTHING, including their dogs poops, for Ronald Reagan? What about the people who complain about how HIGH their taxes are right now, when they're lower than they were during most of Reagan's term? Or those that complain about amnesty for illegals when the first president to do it was their beloved Ronald Reagan?

Let's analyze that cult of personality, shall we?

Or can we recognize that every president ends up developing a bit of a cult of personality because it's the nature of the office in the media age? Indeed, I would question one who doesn't - because it means they're completely ineffective in developing support from their followers.

But, instead we can just sit around and pretend that the other side is worse because it suits our partisan needs.

Thinking his cult of personality claim is paranoid is trolling now?

Trolling? Maybe. Waaaaay off topic and irrelevant to the subject of the thread? Definitely.

And, if you have something to add to the thread, you're welcome to do so, otherwise move on to another thread that you find more interesting.

Read the non bolded part of my post you quoted.

Heh cute. I believe we are all entitled to lay out our comments as we see fit as long as it is within the rules.
