Scottish woman is preparing to take legal action to prevent fertility doctors from destroying her transgender daughter's frozen sperm.

Louise Anderson wants to use the frozen sperm of her daughter, Ellie, to produce a grandchild.

Ellie, who lived in Stirling, died suddenly in July aged 16.

She was transgender and identified as a girl. Ellie had her sperm frozen when she was 14 so she could eventually have her own biological children.

Her mother wants to honour her wishes posthumously, using Ellie's sperm, an egg donor and a surrogate.

If the sperm are viable there should be no problem with in vitro fertilization. And a biological grandson for the mother.

It sounds like you're thinking only of the rights of the mother, not of the real world affects this would have on a child or the precedence it would set for society. How do we know that men who identify as women won't do the same in the future, and demand that motherless/fatherless children be brought into the world? We don't, but we also didn't reckon on Ellie Anderson freezing his sperm when he was still capable of producing it. So let's polish that slope and make it slippery for ourselves. :shrug:

Well, Ellie Andersons' intent when paying to freeze his sperm was so that he could have kids, knowing that after surgery and hormones there was a chance that his male reproductive organs wouldn't work, or that his replacement female organs can't bear children. His intent wasn't to give his mom a grandkid after he died.

I don't see what the problem is? The trans girl wanted to have children some day (maybe by a surrogate or maybe she was a lesbian in her identified gender) so she thought ahead to save genetic material and now that she is dead her mother wants custody of it.

She was assigned male at birth so she could not get herself pregnant. That is why she saved her sperm. If she was born female she would not have been saving her own sperm because her body would have produced eggs and not sperm. Once she began hormone/androgen blocking therapy she is much less likely to be able to produce viable sperm for future offspring via a surrogate or maybe she was a lesbian in her identified gender.

Saving sperm or eggs for possible conceiving children in the future is not unusual among the transgendered community.

That's it, in a nutshell. When we do get a handle on this crisis, he wants to be able to pull out footage and declare "I called it! I said use this! I said try this!
