Saudi, Emirati Leaders Decline Calls With Biden During Ukraine Crisis
The White House unsuccessfully tried to arrange calls between President Biden and the de facto leaders of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates as the U.S. was working to build international support for Ukraine and contain a surge in oil prices, said Middle East and U.S. officials.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the U.A.E.’s Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan both declined U.S. requests to speak to Mr. Biden in recent weeks, the officials said, as Saudi and Emirati officials have become more vocal in recent weeks in their criticism of American policy in the Gulf.

“There was some expectation of a phone call, but it didn’t happen,” said a U.S. official of the planned discussion between the Saudi Prince Mohammed and Mr. Biden. “It was part of turning on the spigot [of Saudi oil].”

The good news is they didn't say no, they just wouldn't take his call.

Schism, when you're starting a thread with an article, it always helps to read it first.

For instance, here's part of that article:

Mr. Biden did speak with Prince Mohammed’s 86-year-old father, King Salman, on Feb. 9, when the two men reiterated their countries’ longstanding partnership. The U.A.E.’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the call between Mr. Biden and Sheikh Mohammed would be rescheduled.

And:

The Saudis have signaled that their relationship with Washington has deteriorated under the Biden administration, and they want more support for their intervention in Yemen’s civil war, help with their own civilian nuclear program as Iran’s moves ahead, and legal immunity for Prince Mohammed in the U.S., Saudi officials said. The crown prince faces multiple lawsuits in the U.S., including over the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.

So. They want us to keep enabling their support of the Yemen civil war and give legal immunity to their prince.

Sounds like Saudi Arabia is playing childish games with an administration that's not taking their shit like the last administration did.

Speaking of the last administration, Biden is a big boy. He's not going to go on a rage-filled tweetstorm just because the Saudis wouldn't take his call.

That's right, they wouldn't take his call and handed the phone to gramps.

Now I suppose you'll support killing people in Yemen to open the oil spigots.

both Prince Mohammed and Sheikh Mohammed took phone calls from Russian President Vladimir Putin after declining to speak with Biden, according to the WSJ. They also spoke with Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky.
Everyone... but Joe.

Why would that be?

Personally I despise the Saudi's for their deplorable human rights record, subjugation of women and lower social classes, and their cartel behavior with energy markets. We would be better off in North America if we produced our own energy and supplemented with Canadian oil and new tech.

The reality is we're going to need fossil fuels for the next 60 years whether we like it or not. Yes we need to develop renewables, but we're nowhere near replacing oil and gas in this world - Germany knows that. We should know that too.

Lol. And the Saudis aren’t taking our sh!t either and Brandon is so concerned with an issue that doesn’t involve us that he will force Americans to pay 6 dollars a gallon for gas, this will be the least successful admin ever.

“Subjugation of women”

Silly, Saudi Arabia is a kingdom, everyone is subjugated, as in subjects of the King.

Because those governments know that Joe Biden is not in charge. The United States is now agreement proof, because all foreign countries know that the deep state really runs our foreign policy. And our foreign policy is schizophrenic and changes based off of whatever woke fad is going around.

You don’t think that the foreign ministries of every other country in the world can see that Joe Biden is a senile old man who’s being handled? If you were the foreign minister of Saudi Arabia would you wanna talk to Joe Biden or would you want to talk to his handlers? There’s no point in talking to Biden. And since the USG won’t admit whos actually handling Biden than why bother do any more diplomacy than necessary?

Don't blame them. With the Biden catastrophe in the Afghanistan withdrawal, trust in America is on thin ice. And this after all of the gains the Trump administration had made in finally getting the Saudis and other gulf states to trust the USA as an honest peace broker, interested in standing up to the Iranians and other radical powers in the region.

Biden is the worst president in the last 100 years. He is a bumbling fool and total loser. Nobody respects him.

It's wryly amusing to see some of my fellow Americans supporting the slogan, 'America First!' and then noting their reaction when other nations proclaim, one way or 'nother, the same concept for their country.

And so it goes. [A tip-o'-the-Torus-hat to the late Mr. Kurt Vonnegut.]

Regards, stay safe 'n well 'n remember the Big 5.

Biden is only trying to do some business necessary to ease the prices of oil here at home. No matter what he does, you all won't be happy with it.

You couldn't be more wrong. Women are regarded as second-class citizens in SA. They were only very recently allowed to drive cars alone, for example. They do not have the same rights as men.

Wasn't the abandoning of the Kurds in Syria on short notice another sign of that; or wavering on article 5 in the NATO charter? The writing on the wall started in the previous administration, given its more isolationist stance in both rhetoric and actions. I don't think that's changed all that much with this administration either, but the big question from a global perspective is who is/are the true global power(s). It's clear China and Russia see an opening, and the one thing in common both of those nations have is dislodging the US' sphere of influence.
