ObamaCare: Some Democrats are signing on to bills repealing the powers of the Independent Payment Advisory Board to effectively ration health care for seniors. So Sarah Palin was right about those death panels after all?

Palin was mocked by liberals when at a Tea Party rally in Reno, Nev., in late 2010, shortly before the GOP retook the House of Representatives, she told attendees: "Don't be thinking that we've got victory for America in the bag yet. ... We can't party like it's 1773."

Leftist know-it-alls insisted that 1776 was the correct year, when in fact Palin was right: The Boston Tea Party she referred to — a protest of British oppressive taxation — happened on Dec. 16, 1773.

Palin was right as well, and also took a lot of heat, when she referred to ObamaCare's Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) as a death panel whose decisions would result in health care rationing.

(Under ObamaCare, IPAB's board of 15 presidentially appointed "experts" will be empowered to make arbitrary Medicare spending-cut decisions with virtually no congressional oversight or control.)

There are 40,700,000 citizens age 65 and older who are on Medicare.

Obamacare, and it’s funding panel, often referred to as the Death Panel, determines on a case by case basis what Medicare will and will not pay for in terms of surgeries, treatments, and drug regiments. If this panel uses the same criteria as the Internal Revenue Service, the enforcement arm of Obamacare, in reaching those decisions there is nothing preventing the panel from refuse funding based on political party affiliation.

Like Obama said, if you have terminal cancer you had better be prepared to receive only pain killers and attend an end-of-life seminar. If you are elderly, and need a hip transplant, get used to your wheel chair. Someone of working age will get it first.

Obamacare is only an illusion of health care. It is about absolute power. It about politicians making life and death calls. Is it any wonder Congress and their staff want no part of it. When government owns your health, government owns you.

Thomas Jefferson said. “If people let the government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as the souls who live under tyranny.” Hope and change is bringing big time sorry.

You're right. I shouldn't have dignified that load of bull with a response.

All apologies.

Lets us hope and pray that this "vindication"for Sister Sarah brings here the 2016 Presidential nomination on the Republican Party ticket.

I realize by your response that sometimes by arguing with the words of spoiled toddler sarah palin you give her words merrit and when the argument is thaty stupid and absurd you just need a simple and concise response. Of course, we probably should get her a handler with a rolled up newspaper to bap her on the nose when she gets all yappy like that.

I remember when GW Bush first ran for republican nominee and I wanted him to win because I thought there was no way the US public could vote for someone as dim as him to become President...how wrong I was.

Sarah Palin is an outright idiot. She also got caught using favoritism and corruption during the part term she served as governor of Alaska. Folks like her bring out the real facts about the T(Republican) party....not that most folks hadn't already caught on. That's all this country needs.....another north woods gun nut in our government. Moose is not the only thing she shoots.

The repub legislature and gov. in Arizona beat the IPAB to the punch, and the poor people died. I guess they had some potholes that needed filling.

Jan. 6, 2011

Two Arizona Medicaid recipients denied potentially life-saving organ transplants have died, even as Arizona doctors, transplant survivors and some lawmakers push to restore health care benefits slashed last fall.

On Oct. 1, the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System stopped paying for seven types of transplants that the state's GOP governor, Jan Brewer, and GOP-led legislature said they could no longer afford. The state faces a projected $1 billion program deficit by July 2011.
Arizona Transplant Patients Die After State Cuts Medical Insurance - ABC News

The death panels before the Arizona legislature have been the insurance companies that approve or deny treatments, ever mindful of their bottom line. The insurance companies would deny coverage to those with pre-existing conditions that they thought were too expensive, and they would drop coverage on paying customers who got conditions that were too expensive to treat and would hurt their EPS. You've had a death panel all along, your insurance company, you may have just been healthy enough or covered in a large group plan and been lucky enough not to have met them, yet.

The fact that the IPAB review board function is essentially the same as the insurance company review board, except without the profit incentive, and people don't realize it, astonishes me.

She was right about the IPAB. They will make decisions that result in life or death. It's not that this is a bad thing or a wrong thing. It was calling a spade a spade and stating it in a way that doesn't sugar coat the reality of it. There will be life or death decisions made and someone DOES have to make these decisions because costs do have to be controlled and some level of rationing is going to be necessary. We're all going to die and we really need to get that into our heads because for some, the idea that society doesn't owe us an extra day, month or year on this planet no matter what the cost, is ridiculous. Reasonable health care isn't "unlimited health care". Taxpayers can't afford unlimited healthcare even if we thought it would be a great idea. Someone will have to decide where the line of reason must be drawn. Get used to it. No matter how it's worded or what euphemistic title the decision makers are given, the decisions will still be made if we're on any healthcare that is dependent on other peoples' money. It happens with private insurance companies. It will happen with government health care programs.

Whether Palin is or is not an idiot is irrelevant. She was right on this.

Well, technically, he didn't really get elected.

What are these women so happy to be measuring with their thumbs in these pictures? Palin seems the winner.

Well, technically, he didn't really get elected.

Technically, he did, indeed, get elected. And since it subsequently turned out that not one single "recount" formal or informal (lots of news media had a go at it) ended with a different result, the technical result was the correct result.

You're suggesting that a group of 15 people has been charged with making "case by case" decisions for 40.7 million people? Ask yourself: does that make sense? Is that even possible? The answer to both, of course, is no because the IPAB isn't charged with examining individual cases.

Nevermind that the panel at present doesn't exist (no one has been nominated to any of those 15 slots), and even if it did the CMS Actuary has determined that Medicare's unprecedentedly low per capita growth is thus far below the threshold that triggers action from the IPAB.

Health insurance companies already dictate what they will pay, if it will cover that treatment, and increase premiums the sicker and less healthy you are.

Medicare currently does that. Hospitals always lose money on medicare patients, because the hospital will never receive 100 percent of the service fees.

Calling it a death panel is ridiculous.

Don't you right-wingers realize doctors do this kind of rationing all the time when it comes to organ transplants? Who gets the organs are based on need and how much useful life that person can get out of organs and not based on who is the wealthiest. Would you like to have a system where some rich old fart who can buy a motor scooter gets a hip replacement instead of the struggling 40 year old single mother? It's about letting the neediest get care and not who is the highest bidder.

How about "death by committee"?

Nonsense.
Well, yes, you can. In fact we know nearly for certain that the recount stopped by the Supreme Court would have given Gore the lead. (Of course, it’s entirely possible that the Republican-controlled Florida legislature would have simply overridden the results of the count and handed the state to Bush, as it threatened to do.) But Carney is repeating a common misconception.

The myth that Bush would have won had the recount proceeded dates back to a recount conducted by a consortium of newspapers that examined the ballots. The consortium found that “If all the ballots had been reviewed under any of seven single standards, and combined with the results of an examination of overvotes, Mr. Gore would have won, by a very narrow margin.”

...The newspapers’ error has to be understood in the context of the time. After Bush prevailed in the recount, there was massive pressure to retroactively justify the processes that led to his victory, in the general spirit of restoring confidence in the system. In the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, that pressure intensified to the point where it was commonly opined that the newspapers ought to entirely cancel the recount (scheduled to come out in November 2001, at the height of the rally-around-Bush moment). In that atmosphere, the newspapers grasped for an interpretation that would both reassure most Americans of what they wanted to believe and avoid placing themselves in opposition to a powerful and bipartisan rallying around Bush that was then at its apogee.
