The Sanders campaign is apparently laying off several hundred staffers. The argument is that they have less need since there aren't as many states ahead, however as the CNN article notes this isn't the act of a campaign that expects it will need to keep its staff in place ahead of the general election. I think we're heading into the final month and a half of the campaign.

it's crazy as hell that any campaign would even have so many workers. It just shows how out of whack our 'democracy' has become. All that to serve one man's bid for power, and i'm sure it's the same for the other candidates

I have the same contempt for other 'nonprofits' such as college athletic departments dwarfing in size far in excess of what's appropriate

But yes, the point of the thread, it looks like he's throwing in the towel, but then he should also stop taking donations!

Bernie knows that at this point the only way he can really get the nomination is if some major event happens that takes her down. Major political blunder, indictment, panama papers, Clinton foundation scandal, evidence leaked of major election rigging, etc. He'll keep on trucking and keep his options open, but he's a practical man and he knows his message is out there. He'll show up to the convention just in case. It's looking more and more like he'll end up falling in line behind her, probably in the name of #StopTrump which will help them both move past the bitterness that's come up in the primaries.

Bernie ought to just throw in the towel. All he's doing now is just wasting time and money.

He's still proving a point. And why throw in the towel when there's a chance, granted its a small one but still, that one of the many things hanging over her head actually does end up turning into a game changer? Her public image becomes so toxic the superdelegates flip for the good of the party........ Sure I'm dreaming, but theres still a non-zero chance of something along those lines happening.

About time he got the message.

Now let's all rally behind Hillary guys! Yay!

As Dandy Don used to sing "Turn out the lights. The party is over. They say that all good things must end."

So as once feared , it is Trump vs Clinton. If there are any Air Force vets out here from the 70's you will know what FIGMO backwards says and that is what we are.

What point is he trying to prove? That he's great at wasting everyone's time?

As far as his chances, he's got about as much chance as the Titanic will rise up from the sea again. Clinton has got like a 300 pledged delegate lead over him now.

Bitterness? One of Sanders' biggest mistakes was falling on Hillary's sword in the beginning instead of taking her to task from the get go.
He is practical enough to easily follow the political winds, something which unfortunately makes him closer to the "rest of the gang" than I care for. Though he's still my favorite.

A well thought out and intelligent response. Not a knee jerk reaction at all. Strange world you live in where Canada is a communist regime.
*for the sarcastically impaired

About time he got the message.
That the Democratic tyranny won't have a real progressive trying to come along and ruin its status quo? He probably did.

I'm trying to get as many people as I can to fill in "Marilyn Vos Savant". I doubt it will upset the Coke or Pepsi campaign trails much but still.

No. I completely understand that Hillary is a corrupt, lying shill.
It doesn't take much to see that.
But it evidently takes a lot to detect sarcasm for some, huh? ;)

Whose time is he wasting, exactly?
Sorry that he won't sit down and shut up.
Sorry that he is willing to go on even though the tyrannical delegate system says he should not.

Several points really. That the standard candidates that get pushed on the voters are lacking in a way we should not tolerate. That Corporate America has bought many of our representatives. I'm sure you've heard the speeches. Staying in the race and gathering as many delegates as he can gives more weight to the cause he's championing and more influence after the race is over. You can't assert that his strategy is poor based on your personal dislike for the man.

As far as wasting time ...... exactly how is he wasting time? Were they going to move the election up to August if he dropped out?

It's Shillary's race to lose at this point. But he's not even mathematically eliminated. Like I said, it would take a major **** up from Shillary for it to happen, but it's not impossible. Hell, a lot of the momentum Bernie built up between June and December last year came from a series of minor gaffes by the Shillary camp.

From the beginning, Bernie was swimming upstream against insurmountable odds. I loved his message. I loved him like I love Santa Claus and all the presents he left me. But I got to thinking, where did Santa get all those toys? Elves, of course! Then I thought what it would be like to be one of Bernie's little elves making **** for him to give away.

But I LOVE Bernie's message and we would all be wise to take some of it to heart or watch our children and grandchildren become little corporate elves being directed from the quarterdeck of some tycoon's yacht. Eisenhower, a great republican, tried to tell us many of the same things Bernie has been trying to tell us too.

The Donald, much like Bernie, has a snowball's chance of becoming P.O.T.U.S. But he also has a message that people should take to heart. Parties are corrupt. Politicians are corrupt. The election is rigged and Washington, as a whole, is one big douchebag convention. Trump's message was a "loud and clear" flying middle finger at the status quo powers that be. Well done sir.

Let's hope Hillary gets indicted. Soon.

I agree for the most part, but he was balancing trying to win and trying not to be a spoiler that hands things to the Republicans. In fact, looking back, he gave himself an easy out for this situation, a situation that was likely to arise from the beginning. He said many times how he's the best chance to stop Trump, that Trump must be stopped. Well, that gives him the reason he needs to put aside all his objections to Shillary and ask his followers to support her in the likely event of a Trump vs Clinton general. He won't look 2 faced or hypocritical, he'll be accepting a lesser threat in order to address the greater threat. It does, however, make him look a little more like a politician. That golden glow fades a bit when you realize he probably came up with this strategy from the beginning, that if he ended up losing after a heated battle with Shillary, he could play the #StopTrump card to come back around and support her without looking too hypocritical. And if Trump doesn't win the nomination the #StopCruz card will play just as well. And if its Kasich or some other wildcard, it would be to stop the republicans from stacking the SCOTUS with young social conservative justices. I suppose you have to play the game, at least to a certain degree, if you want to get anything accomplished.

He's still my favorite too......

He is a Dyed in the Wool Socialist and as Ron Paul never stood a chance of winning his Party nomination. Reality Bites, eh.

Dems want Hillary, thats why she's winning the delegate count. If they wanted someone else, that someone else would be winning and not her, its as simple as that.

That Corporate America has bought many of our representatives.
Including Bernie. So what else is new?

Staying in the race and gathering as many delegates as he can gives more weight to the cause he's championing and more influence after the race is over.
Seriously? What do you think those delegates that have pledged to support him will do once Hillary wins and the race is over? Thats right. Nothing.

You can't assert that his strategy is poor based on your personal dislike for the man.
Im not a Dem, Im neutral. I have no love or hate for Bernie, I just think what he's doing is laughable.

I disagree with your reason, but I can accept the outcome. Since it is impossible to prove either way, I'll leave it at that.

"Those Delegates" are nothing but a number once everything is said and done. I don't expect them to fight for Bernie after the convention. But this race so far has brought a significant amount of political capitol to Bernie, which he can later use as a senator. He would be a fool not to bring in as much as he can while he still has the unique opportunity to do so. I suppose he risks having people like you mock him, for whatever that's worth.

If you don't dislike the man then you seem to despise his supporters. You seem to be putting some effort into mocking them for supporting someone likely to lose. You miss the point entirely if that's the case, although him winning sure would have been nice.

I'm not really sure why your laughing, my statement was realistic. Bernies odds of hitting 2300~ delegates is approaching the same odds of hitting the Powerball jackpot. But why would I toss my lottery ticket in the trash before the drawing because I probably won't win? Because the idea of holding a losing ticket is embarrassing? Please....

This is true. The democrats absolutely want Hillary. The thing is, the independents seem to prefer Bernie and not being registered democrat, often they cannot vote in the primaries. Keep in mind, Independents out number both the democrats and the republicans. If they pledge "Bernie or Bust," and many likely will, and refuse to vote for Hillary she has a problem on her hands.

I know I would never vote for Hillary. Trump or Cruz either. Looks like I will be sitting this one out.

Yep. I will also be sitting this election out as well.

Why not vote for Trump then? You are helping him already by not voting so why not just admit you like Trump better and vote for him? Sanders never had a chance and was not running to be a spoiler but you think he was?
