Commercial real estate owners including the president likely to see tax benefits from stimulus package but sales stagnate

The commercial real estate industry has ground nearly to a halt due to coronavirus shutdowns, forcing buyers and sellers of major properties, including President Trump’s company, to put their plans on hold. Trump’s firm, which he still owns, has had to press pause on the proposed sale of its D.C. hotel lease due to the market’s collapse as potential buyers wait for banks and investors to return normal operations.

The company’s sales representative, Jeffrey Davis of JLL, confirmed to The Washington Post that the proposed sale of Trump’s lease to the federally owned Old Post Office Pavilion has been set aside as the industry recovers.

Trump’s clubs and hotels, including Mar-a-Lago, suffer from coronavirus fallout. As of Monday, seven of the Trump Organization’s 10 top-grossing properties were closed.

The company has now laid off more than 550 workers at its hotels.

I was only joking with my comment. While I think it’s wrong Trump exploited his position by accommodating secret service agents at his hotels and then charging the taxpayer, I don’t actually want his businesses to fail. All his employees at these hotels and resorts are blameless and just as affected by the lock down as the rest of us and I hope they have jobs to go back to when all this is over.

Because he's made how many millions off being president? If he didn't have forethought to save , tough crap...he doesn't get access to 500 billion to dole out and include his businesses in the mix...had he not been president that would be different

Golf courses should not receive any help. You can argue for hotels, but not golf courses.

I am and have always been a strong supporter of capitalism.

What we have today is not capitalism in the classic sense. What we have today is crony capitalism, capitalism run amok to the point of fascism.

It's not that his holdings should not get some relief. It's that he and others have written into the bill advantages that are designed to help them specifically.

( He even urged people last week to get out and play a round of golf.)

Follows is the definition of "fascism" from a 1984 Webster's New Riverside Dictionary. If you don't mind, I prefer to ground my discussions on the subject on that definition rather than the pronouncements of an internet poster. Thanks.

capitalism depends on free markets and the delivery of goods to market by free enterprise
socialism and communism 100% depend on stringent socioeconomically control.

When the treasury is used to fund public health and education it's called socialism--the people benefit.

When the treasury is used to fund corporate agendas, like endless war brought under fraud, when it is used to "bail out" corporations for their poor business management history, it's called fascism.

Real capitalism means that poor business management practices are punished by the market. Failure is failure.
