Much like the 9/11 "Terrorist", where is the body? Why wasn't this event shown via the media and photographed? HMMMM. I'm sure the photo's, after the CIA finishes, will be visionable for the naive and stupid.

His trial was not a fair one according to international legal experts.

But the evidence of his guilt was extensive and damning.

I don't think it'll really help the situation in Iraq, though.

That's a train wreck that executing a dictator won't repair...

No, but he had become a rallying figure for anti-Western militants. His defiance of America and the UN went a long way to excusing his "sins" of secular government and even his crimes against Muslims.

Tried and sentenced by Iraqis-- however farcical the trial was-- for crimes against Iraqis will deflate a good deal of his martyrdom, and being a corpse instead of a prisoner will make it easier for foreign insurgents to remember his crimes against many of their own people.

This won't be a big help, but him twisting in the wind is better for us than him sitting in prison defying the new government's authority.

That's the most intelligent and pithy note in this entire thread.

And for the record, Saddam was indeed Muslim. He was a secularist though. "Secular" does not mean "Athiest."

I remember reading that Saddam's half-brother told some Western newspaper or magazine that Saddam was an agnostic. Also, Saddam had the words "VICTOR OVER ALLAH" inscribed at the base of his statue. He certainly wasn't known for his piety. I don't think he ever renounced Islam (as that would've been shockingly bad politics), but he was definitely a Muslim in name only.

Talk about war Crimes against humanity, All of the deaths of hundreds of thousand Iraqis, American and Coalition troops, the Chaos and death due to sectarian violence can be laid directly at the feet of George W, and his invasion of another country without cause.

Indeed the world would be a far far far better place without GWB. The guy's a self-rightous arrogant moron who's caused more turmoil by taking the worst actions possible then "staying the course" with it.

Were we right about the "massive" stockpiles of WMDs. Of course we were. Did Saddam and Al-Qaeda have strong ties? Of course they did. Saddam was an American at heart, from Texas, but an American none the less. :violin :hm...wait...
