This is really sad what once was a arena for people to play with huge complex ideas and philosophies regarding politics are now becoming nothing more than diploma factories.

I think this ranks right up there with people who watch fox news and think they're ..."fair and balanced".
See these students don't know sh#t ...and fox news watchers ...only knows sh#t. :lamo

Some of us get a college education in order to empower ourselves to make positive social change in our communities, not to memorize every trivial minutia of the workings of the government. Learning the realities of racism, sexism, robberbaronism, and capitalism is much more important. How is learning the line of succession or the constitutional requirements for president going to create an empowered electorate?

Ah, the "I can't defend it, so I shall attempt to shift to a slam on fox news!" Lame.

Requirements for being elected are 'trivial minutia'? Interesting. I see you took it all hook, line and sinker.

But if you don't understand the basic facts about our republic how can you ever hope to implement the change of those loftier ideas ? Also do you really think if you asked them a more complicated question it would improve the quality of awnsers?

Why does one need to understand such things in order to fight racism, sexism, injustice, and capitalism? It's completely irrelevant. It only comes in handy to racists who want to find anything they can to find doubt as to the citizenship status of our non-white president.

Most leave college as indoctrinated propagandized liberals. until they have to make it on their own in the real word and become conservatives or libertarians or a mix of both.
Now some stubborn liberals try to change the world to make what they was propagandized to believe would work and to stubborn and indoctrinated to admit it doesn't work and they was lied too. because who wants to admit they wasted four years and thousands of dollars for a line of crap

no it's completely relevant because to fight those things you have to change the system and the only way to chsnge the system is to understand how that system works so you know what method will be most effective for reaching your goal. Also I would point out I don't care about the presidents race I care about his ideology there are plenty of African America Conservatives I would rather have in the White House right now.

WOW. Amazing amount of ignorance in that post.

Agreed.

The reason people like him say the things they do, is because they don't want to work within the system to change things. They know that in general there isn't really enough support to use the system for the changes they want.

You guys know that this is not a representative sample, right?
Kind of like Jay Leno's thing, people who don't give funny answers aren't shown.
This isn't data.

some have, others haven't ... there are some bad schools, and some excellent ones ...

I'm appalled by some of the ignorance on this forum and how much disinformation is believed. Sadly, people here are probably better informed than the general public.

Although people should be acquainted with facts and figures, it is more important that people understand the ideas and history behind the constitution and our government. Facts can be looked up.

In general K-12 education over emphasizes the memorization of facts because that is easier to test with multiple choice test. At least when I was in K-12 school (starting fifty years ago) much of what we learned was myths and propaganda ie. Washington crossing Delaware, Washington and Cherry tree, Lincoln walking in snow to return a book, the first Thanksgiving with Indians etc. All European history was taught in one year and we learned virtually nothing about Asia, Russia, Africa, Canada, and central and south America. Except for a bit about the civil rights, we learned nothing about the post WWII era.

In college I learned how inaccurate and propagandish my K-12 social studies/history/civics education actually was.

The most important thing I learned, largely from my parents, is how to do research, teach yourself, and tell the difference between good and bad information, and how to put information in context. Those skills, media literacy, is one of the most important things to learn and should be taught throughout K-12 school and reinforced in college. The lack of those skills is the main cause of political ignorance and the source of a lot of unnecessary conflict. A better understanding of logic, science and the empirical method would also reduce a lot of ignorance and belief in disinformation.

So you think edited interviews of some kids from a rightwing website is evidence of the status of education in the US?

I think it's evidence of your lack of education that's for sure.

This goes under the "I hate college" meme that rightwingers love to spew out. Kids are smarter and better educated today than ever, despite the GOP's attempt to destroy public education.

The weirdo behind the "Leadership Conference" that runs the deceptive website in the OP.

In youth politics, Mr. Blackwell was a College Republican state chairman and a Young Republican state chairman in Louisiana.

He served on the Young Republican National Committee for more than a dozen years, rising to the position of Young Republican National Federation national vice chairman at large.

Off and on for five years, 1965-1970, he worked as executive director of the College Republican National Committee under four consecutive College Republican national chairmen.

He served on the Louisiana Republican state central committee for eight years.

First elected to the Arlington County (Virginia) Republican Committee in 1972, he is a member of the Virginia Republican state central committee and was first elected in 1988 as Virginia’s Republican National Committeeman (RNC), a post he still holds. In 2004 he was elected to the Executive Committee of the RNC and served for four years.

Having worked actively in politics for more than forty years, he has probably trained more political activists than any other conservative. Starting in the 1960s, he has trained thousands of people who have served on staff for conservative and Republican candidates in every state.

Mr. Blackwell was Barry Goldwater’s youngest elected delegate to the 1964 Republican National Convention in San Francisco.

He was a national convention Alternate Delegate for Ronald Reagan in 1968 and 1976, and a Ronald Reagan Delegate at the 1980 national convention.

In 1980, he organized and oversaw the national youth effort for Ronald Reagan.

He served as Special Assistant to the President on President Reagan’s White House Staff 1981-1984.

Mr. Blackwell is something of a specialist in matters relating to the rules of the Republican Party. He served on rules committees of the state Republican parties in Louisiana and in Virginia. He serves now on the RNC’s Standing Committee on Rules and has attended every meeting of the Republican National Conventions’ Rules Committees since 1972.

What a freak Blackwell is. And the OP used his website!

BWHHAAHHAAHAHAH

It looks as if the Right has taken some time out of its never-ending war against gays, abortion, and the secular culture to issue a “Declaration” calling on the US to stay in Iraq and warning of “catastrophic consequences” should US forces withdraw.

Operating under the name The Forgotten American Coalition, Gary Bauer, Don Wildmon, Pat Robertson, Paul Weyrich, John Hagee, Lou Sheldon, Tim and Beverly LaHaye, Janet Folger, Rick Scarborough, Wendy Wright, Morton Blackwell, Gary Cass, Star Parker, Mathew Staver and other have issued the following Declaration:

The Right Weighs In On Iraq | Right Wing Watch

I used to think that but they do video after video like this on a Meriad of issues so eventually you just have to say where there is smoke there is fire.

Do you buy into homeopathy as well? I mean there are sooo many testimonials. Certainly there has to be something to it. There's sure a lot of smoke anyway.

No, it doesn't. And I was really being generous with that estimate.

perhaps, but it's a guess ... you don't have any data to back it up ... a good education would help you come up with the data ...

Do you actually have a comment on the video and what it might mean? Or just drive by annoyances?
