Its fighters are well trained, but the unit is composed of nationalists and far-right radicals. Its very existence is one of the pretexts Russia has used for its war against Ukraine.

The Azov Battalion is most likely the best in Ukraine. As Mariupol is crucial to prevent a full linkup of Russian and Separatist forces, it is fitting that they be committed to the battle. At the very least they have severely damaged the invaders, at the most they may hold out long enough for Ukraine to redeploy forces in relief.

How the Azov Battalion is surviving, still with ammo, is a mystery.

I didn't realize it was de-politicized... Russian propaganda had fooled me into thinking it was the same as in 2014.

I am sure several of them still are in the battallion, but the battallion is not under their control. The National Corps party also succeeded with the feat of getting 0 seats in the Rada.

This is pretty much the situation. Azov is a NG regiment tha excels in EOD and reconnaissance.
