Russian warships: Why are they sailing toward Syria?

Moskva is an old battle-ship, landing ships and the rest are useless in direct naval confrontation against modern destroyers and an aircraft carrier with its full escort...
The most they can do is to "show presence", gather "intelligence", and carry land-sea rescue operations if/when needed.

Cheers,
Fallen.

Heya FA. :2wave: Well and act as a warning system for Assad. ;)

Three additional Russian warships – SSV-201 intelligence ship Priazovye and two landing ships Minsk and Novocherkassk crossed Bosphorus strait, France Press agency reported from Istanbul.
That's why I said Russian warships 'worth mention' ;)

Yeah I know.....that's why I put up the Intel and communication ships with advanced radar systems. ;)

I think those rebels would never be heard of again.

Yeah....but the Rebels were close since they went after the Christians in Homs.

The Russians unwittingly disclosed quite a bit of information about those radar systems a few days ago when Israel tested it's Arrow-3 anti-missile system with a Sparrow test-missile fired from the Med.

The landing ships will serve for the evacuation of (civilian) Russian personnel in the event of chaos resulting from Assad falling. It's most likely that the UN supported SNC will be able to secure law and order, but Russia must be prepared.

If WMD moved from Iraq to Syria then Russia must be prepared to pick them up at the other end indeed. Back to the maker.

My point was that if rebels took a Russian port then the Russians would not be as kind as the west. Those rebels would just disappear from media, from each other, and from life as we know it.

Like most think in IHS.....they will help to give Assad an additional 3 to 4 mins of time.

It appears we have sent a 135C that will be monitoring for Nukes and could possibly detect Chems. We also now are talking about using Bombers. That's Right.....Bombers. Hope they are Unmanned ones.

Russian warships – at least three of them – are on their way to the eastern Mediterranean waters off Syria. A Russian official says they are a means for Russian civilians to escape Syria in the event of US airstrikes. But the ships can do oh so much more.

Russian warships are gathering in the waters off Syria. According to AFP, three ships from Russia’s Black Sea Fleet sailed through Turkey’s Bosphorus Strait on Thursday: the SSV-201 intelligence-gathering ship Priazovye, and the landing ships Minsk and Novocherkassk.

More might be on the way. A frigate and another landing ship are ready to head to the eastern Mediterranean from the Black Sea Fleet base in Sevastopol, according to CBS News.

Why is Moscow ordering so much sea power to the region?

US and Russian warships are not the only military assets now gathering in the region.

American and allied aircraft are assembling at bases near – or on the way to – Syria, as well. US cargo aircraft are flying into Incirlik in southern Turkey, according to the plane-tracking blog "The Aviationist."

France has moved two Atlantique reconnaissance and signal intelligence aircraft to a base on Cyprus. In late August, a US WC-135C atmospheric collection aircraft was spotted flying east south of Great Britain. Generally considered a radiation monitoring asset, the WC-135C might be able to detect release of chemical weapons.

Given the delay as the US Congress debates whether to authorize limited Syrian action, the Pentagon has been refining its target set. Bombers as well as cruise missiles may now be needed to carry out US plans.

If that’s so, tanker aircraft will also have to preposition along attack routes. A B-2 stealth bomber would require five refuelings to reach Syria from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri.....snip~

Russian warships..why are they sailing towards America??

Huh? They're not sailing towards here. They are headed for Syria.

So China is sending ships and Marines too.....eh Coin. Must be a Merchant Ships for the Chinese huh. Did anyone try not to laugh thru that News Report?

They sent only 0.04 % of it's total troops. :lamo

To me Obama has no ****in plan what to do in Syria.
Assume that he will do only a missile strike.
He strike Syria for 90 days. He will strike their defense system. What he is going to do on the ground??
What he expect to receive as feedback?! To overthrown Assad ??
The rebels cannot take power in Syria.
Russia, China, Iran would never allow rebels to win on ground.
CIA and Al Qaeda failed on ground.
I cannot imagine how a missile attack by air can overthrown Assad.

This is not Serbia. Serbia was attacked by air in order to step them back from Kosovo. Just that.

RT, Alex Jones and 'beforeitsnews' ?

You can't be serious.
Well, Iran is about to send 5000 troops.
Do you believe it?? It was also reported in your media.

It is just a report.

When medias from that region were blaming CIA about the coup in Iran many many years ago, no one believed it and laughed the ass off.
Until CIA admitted it itself in 2013.

Of course RT tend to focus most of news in disfavor of USA and west. That doesn't mean all its reports are crap.
Western medias do the same with Russia news.

Absolutely, Russia keeps the port. I believe they will also be promised oil pipeline projects to make up for revenue lost in regime change.

Russia has no intention of going to war for (or against) the Iranian regime.

If the opposition takes power I'm not sure how you ensure such an arrangement (if it exists) could hold up.
