No he wouldn't, he'd just be way farther right than anybody in the mainstream here. You are correct that what is called "conservative" here has nothing to do with other countries. Dick Cheney would be considered a dangerous Liberal in Iran.

Putin certainly ascribes to many aspects of traditional conservatism - nationalism, "traditional" values, maintaining the social norm. In many ways it's what's known as "conservatism" here that is far to the left of the global norm. Capitalism is pretty much in full force in Russia. Having been there, I can tell you that their brand of capitalism is in many ways more pure than we have here.

I love all these liberals outraged about "gays" being targeted by the Russian Government

Why should we take any of you seriously? You have stood silent and even defended the Obama Administration using tools of the US Government (NSA and the IRS) to purposely target and harass Americans for their beliefs, including their religious beliefs.

To insult russia of course. Pick your reason. We will do it because they gave snowden asylum. We are doing it because they passed laws against homosexuality. We do it because they are pinko commies or whatever the people who hate communists want to say. It is a great chance for us to thumb our noses at russia. however, it should be recognized that if this was someone other than a gay person you would have no problem with that, but because they are gay all of a sudden you do not want to be on the side with the open gays on it. Maybe you are more like russia than you are aware?
