US Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland's cell phone call to President Donald Trump from a restaurant in Ukraine this summer appears to be a shocking security breach that raises significant counterintelligence concerns, according to several former officials, who told CNN there is a high probability that intelligence agencies from numerous foreign countries, including Russia, were listening in on the conversation.

"I cannot remember in my career any time where an ambassador in a high counterintelligence environment like Kiev would have such an unsecure conversation with a sitting president. This just should not happen," he said.


Bill Taylor, the top US diplomat in Ukraine, revealed during the first public impeachment hearing Wednesday that a member of his staff, who was accompanying Sondland to meetings in Kiev, saw the ambassador call Trump from his cell phone and overheard the President asking about "the investigations."

That phone call was ill-advised on many levels. Certainly from a security standpoint.

Sondland should have made his call to Trump from the huge US Embassy complex in Kyiv.

Why do you use terms you clearly don't know the meaning of?

This is an impeachment inquiry. This means Congress is considering impeachment charges for wrongdoing by the President and are currently gathering facts and evidence to decide whether or not they wish to formally bring charges. This Constitutional process is not, and has never been intended to be, a "court" in any sense of the word. This is an investigation.

Seriously, why do Trump defenders say the stupidest things?

Hearsay testimony becomes much more compelling when supported by corroborating evidence/testimony, as is happening in the impeachment hearings.

Hearsay and circumstantial evidence can be, and often are, admissible.
 
Why does anyone care anymore trump reports everything to Russia anyway...

I'm gonna bet when those who were actually there testify you are also going to cry "hearsay".

But it won't be. It will be direct evidence.

Allow those with firsthand knowledge to testify. Release relevant evidence.

You do know they live in a different world, with a different history, than everybody else on the planet, right?

And human being are very averse to admitting they have been fooled by someone they put their trust in. It creates an existential crisis.

Which is apparently the primary thing modern conservatism relies on for it's existence.
